Don't Expect Any New Star Wars Games at EA Play Live | CBR

EA Play Live is fast approaching and, as usual, gamers may have been expecting a new game announced for one of the company's biggest properties: Star Wars. Unfortunately, those who might have hoped for one are in for disappointment this year.

EA announced on social media that 2021's event will not see a new Star Wars game. The company wrote, "We won't be showing any new Star Wars games at EA Play Live on July 22nd…but all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!"

The last Star Wars game published by EA was Star Wars: Squadrons, a first-person multiplayer space combat game released in 2020. The game received generally positive reviews, but its reception and general success did not match Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, released in 2019.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment, Fallen Order introduced Cal Kestis, a survivor of the Great Jedi Purge that took place in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The game received positive reviews and has been played 20 million times, according to EA. Prior to the recent announcement, it had been speculated that a sequel to the game was in development and would be teased at the event. EA Play Live's main event is scheduled to begin on July 22. It will offer viewers of the digital event gameplay reveals, giveaways and more.
