Doctor Strange 2 LEGO Confirms a Different Villain | CBR

A LEGO set leak for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may tease an obscure Marvel monster for the upcoming sequel.

Posted to Instagram by 1414falconfan, the leaked LEGO set sees Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Wong (Benedict Wong) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) taking on the villain Gargantos. The villain's name is even confirmed by the set, which is called "Gargantos Showdown." While merchandise leaks don't always necessarily mean a character or scene will appear in a movie, a report from July of this year also teased Gargantos appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with actor Yenifer Molina seemingly cast as "Gargantos 2."

Created by Roy Thomas and Marie Severin, Gargantos first appeared in 1969's Sub-Mariner #13, which saw Namor taking on the deadly beast, who was originally unleashed by the Lemurian Emperor Naga. Gargantos isn't a particularly well-known villain, and the creature's most recent appearance was in a Peter Sanderson and Mark Bagley story from 1989's X-Factor Annual #4. If Gargantos does appear, it's not clear at this time just how comics accurate the monster will be.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange. Upon release, that movie succeeded at the box office, earning $677 million worldwide. Doctor Strange was also met with strong critical reviews, and the film currently holds an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel was officially anounced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, where the title was revealed as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Specific plot details on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness aren't known at this time. However, the synopsis for the movie teases Doctor Strange continuing his research into the Time Stone when a former friend -- presumably Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) -- disrupts his plans. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will have connections WandaVision, with Elizabeth Olsen reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. The movie is also said to connect to Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as Loki.

While in November Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was announced as undergoing significant reshoots, the movie is still set for release on May 6, 2022. The sequel will be directed by Sam Raimi, who is replacing Scott Derrickson. Before that film releases, Doctor Strange will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which releases Dec. 17.
