Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: 10 Most Powerful Witches, Ranked

After 36 episodes, Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, based on the Archie Comics series by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack came to an end just as 2021 came into being. The series, a dark version of the classic character Sabrina Spellman, one of the creepiest characters from Archie Comics, was praised for its adult themes, social awareness, and cool characters, but if you're looking for family-friendly horror, this may not be the best choice.

And now that the story has come to a close and all the stories have been told, there is a chance to look back and see who it was that really stood out on the show. While not all the characters on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina were witches, most of them were. And even then, not all of those witches were of equal power. Some barely seemed to know how to use magic at all, while others were nearly unstoppable.

10 Agatha Night

Agatha Night, a member of the Weird Sisters, started off as an antagonist to Sabrina, but that changed after the Spellman family saved her and the rest of the coven from Faustus Blackwood. Agatha, a skilled spiritualist, played a role in the battle against the Pagan gods. During the battle, Agatha went mad when she gazed upon the Great God Pan.

Driven insane, Agatha killed Dorcus, another of the Weird Sisters, and rejoined Faustus Blackwood in his goal to destroy Sabrina and the Spellman family. Agatha was a powerful witch, but not as powerful as many others.

9 Nicholas Scratch

Born with an aptitude for magic, Nicholas Scratch was raised by his werewolf familiar Amalia after his family was killed. Nick came to the Academy of Unseen Arts by chance and had to fight Amalia in order to join the school, leaving him bloodied and scarred. Once he entered the school, Nick was quickly accepted and, within a week, proved himself to not only be one of the most talented witches, but also quite popular with the women at the school.

Nick took to binding and conjuring, and claimed to be the best conjurer since Sabrina's father Edward Spellman, although his issues with alcohol sometimes caused him to lose his ability to use magic.

8 Prudence Blackwood

The head of the Weird Sisters and illegitimate daughter of Faustus Blackwood, Prudence Blackwood began her journey looking to gain her father's love before finally seeing him for the true evil he was. While Prudence was no more skilled than the average witch, her determination to be not only accepted into the Blackwood family but to be seen as one of the most popular students at the Academy of Unseen Arts made her a very dangerous witch.

Prudence was willing to go to great lengths to get what she wanted. From cursing Sabrina early in the series to doing everything she could to kill her father in the final season, Prudence put everything she had into being a witch no one wanted to mess with.

7 Sabrina Spellman

Born half-mortal and half-witch, it was later revealed that Sabrina was in actuality the child of the Dark Lord, giving her a great deal of power that few others had ever wielded. Because of her mortal blood, Sabrina did not initially attend the Academy of Unseen Arts but was given entry after her dark baptism on her 16th birthday.

Had Sabrina been trained from birth to use magic, she likely would have become the most powerful witch of all time, but because she started late, her skills were never going to be as great as they could have been. Still, even with the little training she had, Sabrina showed the ability to pull off magics that only a handful of witches had used before.

6 Hilda Spellman

Sabrina's aunt, Hilda Spellman sought to lead her niece into the Path of Light, despite the objections of her sister Zelda, who wanted Sabrina to follow the Path of Night. Often timid, Hilda was nonconfrontational and preferred potions to spells. Hilda was the most skilled potion maker when she attended the Academy of Unseen Arts and was proud of her title as the "never-bested, all-time reigning champion bubbler".

Hilda is also skilled in poppet puppetry - "the control of non-sentient beings and physical events, like tornados, through the use of poppets."

5 Zelda Spellman

Where Hilda was shy, Sabrina's other aunt, Zelda Spellman, was anything but. Zelda, rarely seen without her cigarette holder in her hand, married Faustus Blackwood and became the High Priestess of the Church of Night, but left him, and the church, when Blackwood's true plans were revealed.

While Zelda was no more powerful than the average witch, when founded the Order of Hecate and became their High Priestess, she was granted a boost in power, possibly as a gift from the triple goddess Hecate or possibly because she was able to connect to the other members of the Order.

4 Gryla

Born during the Dark Ages, Gryla is over a thousand years old, and has the power to prove it. After being tricked into sacrificing and eating her own child, Gryla broke away from the world and began to steal other people's children or take in orphans.

These stolen children, known as the Yule Lads, can only be seen by Gryla, but their actions can be felt by everyone. Not even demons can see the Yule Lads, who may or may not be ghosts. Gryla also has the ability to speak to the dead.

3 Faustus Blackwood

Once the High Priest of the Church of Night, Faustus Blackwood was already one of the most powerful witches in Greendale when he turned his back on the Dark Lord and began worshipping the Eldritch Terrors. Faustus is so powerful that he can banish high ranking demons on his own.

Making him an even greater power, Faustus was made immortal when he was given the Mark of Cain by Lilith. But in time, Faustus would learn that while he could not die, that didn't mean he couldn't be cut into pieces and spread across the world.

2 Ambrose Spellman

Trapped in Spellman Mortuary by a binding spell for 75 years, Ambrose Spellman spent the seven and a half decades fine-tuning his powers and learning all he could. With a vast and unmatched knowledge of witchcraft, spellcasting, and history, Ambrose became a master of many forms of magic, including necromancy, weather manipulation, telekinesis, and astral projection.

Ambrose also owns a magic wand that increases the power of his spells and can generate and control electricity. It is unlikely that Sabrina would have survived for long without the help of her cousin Ambrose and his nearly unbeatable skills.

1 Lilith

Also known as Madame Satan and the Mother of Demons, Lilith was the first witch and became the first disciple of the fallen angel Lucifer Morningstar. Not only the first witch, but Lilith is also a demon, giving her more power than any witch that has come after her.

Along with the usual witch powers, Lilith can use mirrors to spy on her foes and even enter their dreams. She also has the power to raise the dead. While she started off as an enemy of Sabrina, Lilith became one of the teen witch's closest confidants after Sabrina became the Queen of Hell.
