Freaky announced when fans of the body-swap horror/comedy can own its misadventures on Blu-ray and video on demand.
Blumhouse shared the news on Twitter with the post, "Body swap just turned killer. Grab some snacks, pick out your comfiest outfit, and get ready for a bloody good time at home. #FreakyMovie is coming to digital on January 26 and Blu-ray Feb 9."
Freaky was released exclusively in traditional and drive-in theaters on Nov. 13, 2020, and became available on select VoD services starting Dec. 4. In early December, filmmaker and horror fan Kevin Smith was among a handful of celebrities that hosted Freaky watch parties on Twitter. A description for the event, which ran Dec. 4-6, read, "Join the cast and filmmakers of FREAKY on Twitter along with special guest hosts for a killer weekend of laughs and scares!" Freaky director Christopher Landon, as well as producer Jason Blum and actor Kathryn Newton, were among the guests who chimed in during the various watch parties.
The film follows a normal teenage girl named Millie (Newton), whose life becomes more complicated when she swaps bodies with The Butcher, a serial killer played by Vince Vaughn. When Millie learns she has fewer than 24 hours to get her body back from The Butcher, or the switch becomes permanent, she must convince her friends of her true identity. Freaky was partially inspired by the 1972 children's novel Freaky Friday and 1980's Friday the 13th.
In other Blumhouse-related news, Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe (Tree), recently said she'd love to see a crossover between the Happy Death Day franchise and Freaky, which were all helmed by director Christopher Landon. "I was so lucky to get to see it on opening weekend, and it has such fun, wild performances from both Kathryn and Vince [Vaughn]," the actor said at the time. "It totally needs to be a showdown of Tree versus Millie. And maybe Vince can make a cameo as a scream queen because he gave us scream queens a run for our money."
Directed by Christopher Landon, Freaky stars Vince Vaughn, Kathryn Newton, Celeste O'Connor, Misha Oshervich, Uriah Shelton, Alan Ruck, Katie Finneran and Dana Drori. The film will be released digitally on Jan. 26 and on Blu-ray on Feb 9.
