Lucifer: How God's Entrance Impacts Maze's Struggle With Rejection

Since Lucifer's Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) arrived on Earth, she hasn't had an easy time. After following Lucifer from the depths of Hell to L.A., Maze struggled to find her place in the world, which created a desire to find a family of her own. Or, at the very least, find love.

In Season 5a, Maze learned of her estranged mother's death after barely recouping from having her heart broken from Lucifer's ex-girlfriend, Eve. During an interview with CBR, Lucifer's co-showrunner Joe Henderson shared Maze's emotional arc in the second half of the show's fifth season. God's sudden arrival will play a part in her healing journey.

"Maze was left with a really raw, open wound at the end of Season 4," Henderson said. "She finally found love [with Eve] and then had her heart broken. So much of Season 5 is her dealing with rejection."

The co-showrunner added that while "a lot of characters in Season 4 dealt with stuff," they also "got over it." However, Maze's loss is a bit more complicated. "But Maze, she had the biggest wound of all," Henderson added. "We had to figure out how to heal, and to take our time to explore that process. Her mother's death, being manipulated by Michael -- on top of everything -- she's about to heal, and then this new information makes things even worse. And so God is an interesting figure to enter into her life because she has questions. Why am I made this way? She's also got someone to blame standing right in front of her."

Although Henderson neither confirmed nor denied if Maze will have a one-on-one scene with God, he closed his answer with, "Sounds like some good future scenes."
