Marvel Unlimited has shared some of its statistics for 2020, revealing which series, issues and characters drew in the most readers.
The digital comics subscription service posted a video to its official Twitter account showing that its users read over 18.7 million comics in 2020. That comes to a total of over 230 million minutes -- possibly boosted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic leading people to seek alternate forms of entertainment.
Marvel Unlimited readers' favorite character was none other than Peter Parker himself, the Amazing Spider-Man. The top team of 2020 happened to be the X-Men, who are currently undergoing a creative renaissance due to writer Jonathan Hickman. The X-Men were also part of the "X of Swords" crossover event, which saw them fighting to defend their new home of Krakoa by collecting ten mystical swords.
However, the most-read crossover event turned out to be War of the Realms by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. Released in 2019, War of the Realms featured the heroes of the Marvel Universe battling an army led by the Dark Elf Malekith, and served as the capstone to Aaron's run on Thor. Aaron also made the list through the most-read single issue on Marvel Unlimited, Avengers #1, which he also penned.
Marvel Unlimited offers its subscribers over 28,000 digital comics, including issues from current series such as Immortal Hulk. It can be accessed on a desktop web browser, iPhone, iPad and select Android devices.
