The Second Great Ninja War is one of the biggest known events in the world of Naruto. Shortly after the First Great Ninja War, a huge economic disparity arose between the Shinobi Nations and it eventually led to this war. It was fought mainly in Amegakure, a small village, and saw nearly all the major villages in the world take part, leading to the loss of countless lives.
Several powerful shinobi from all the five villages took part in this war and it saw some of them attain legendary status as well.
10 Danzo
Danzo was one of the strongest Konohagakure shinobi during the time of the Second Great Ninja War, however, he certainly wasn't at his strongest back then. Seeing that all the major characters from Konohagakure took part in the war, it is likely that Danzo was involved as well.
As a master of the Wind Release, Danzo could fight multiple strong enemies at once and defeat them, however, he didn't have his Sharingan or his Hashirama cells back then, which makes him weaker in comparison to others.
9 Chiyo
During the Second Great Ninja War, Chiyo was known to be in her prime and she was an incredible asset to Sunagakure. She is known to have created countless poisons during the war which gave the enemy nations all kinds of trouble, however, Tsunade Senju effectively neutralized most of them for Konohagakure.
Nonetheless, Chiyo's skills as a master puppeteer were immense and in her prime, she was likely much stronger, which is why she takes this spot on the list.
8 Third Kazekage
The Third Kazekage is known to have been the strongest of all the shinobi in Sunagakure. He was a terrific leader who could use the Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai, using which he could control Iron Sand.
He led his village in this war and was said to be a force to be reckoned with. The Third Kazekage was eventually kidnapped by Sasori towards the end of the Third Great Ninja War and turned into a puppet.
7 Tsunade Senju
Tsunade Senju was one of the strongest Kunoichi in Konohagakure and the world back during this war. She was a master of medical ninjutsu and her skills with Taijutsu were known to be excellent.
Along with Jiraiya and Orochimaru, Tsunade fought against Hanzo the Salamander during this war and earned the title of Sannin with them. She was also the most essential of the three during the war as she saved countless lives and even countered all of Chiyo's poisons.
6 Jiraiya
Another one of the Konohagakure greats, Jiraiya took part in the Second Great Ninja War as a member of Team Hiruzen. He was quite powerful and his skills and tenacity earned him the title of Sannin, just like Tsunade and Orochimaru.
Jiraiya also trained the Ame Orphans during this war and made them strong enough to survive the war. However, he didn't have access to Sage Mode back then, which is why he was slightly weaker than Orochimaru.
5 Orochimaru
Ever since his childhood days, Orochimaru was considered to be a genius shinobi with the potential of becoming Hokage one day. He was Hiruzen's favorite student, however, he didn't possess the Will of Fire. Nonetheless, Orochimaru was a tremendous fighter and he carried that skill to the battlefield in the Second Great Ninja War.
He fought against Hanzo and made a great name for himself. After the war concluded, he got even stronger and ultimately defected Konohagakure to create his own village.
4 Sakumo Hatake
Kakashi's father, Sakumo Hatake was a famous shinobi who had made a great name for himself as the White Fang of the Leaf during the Second Great Ninja War. It is said that his skills were greater than those of the Legendary Sannin, however, he was never seen in action.
Sakumo ultimately committed suicide as he was punished for abandoning an important mission in order to save his friends.
3 Onoki
Onoki was the Third Tsuchikage of Iwagakure and he led his village into this war. He was an apprentice of Mu, the Second Tsuchikage, and thus, was quite powerful indeed. Onoki's skills with Earth Release were unmatched and what's more, he could also use the Kekkei Tota of Dust Release.
He was never seen fighting in this war, however, his reputation and the fact that he was a Kage alone make him one of the strongest.
2 Hanzo The Salamander
Hanzo was the leader of Amegakure and an incredibly powerful character during the Second Great Ninja War when he was in his prime. His powers were tremendous enough to take on all the Team Hiruzen alone, along with a Konoha shinobi batallion, and defeat them in combat.
Impressed by Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru, he gave them the title of the Legendary Sannin of the Leaf. Towards the latter days of his life, he for significantly weaker.
1 Hiruzen Sarutobi
The Third Hokage of Konohagakure, Hiruzen led his village in this war and succeeded in giving his village the upper hand over others. It is unknown if he fought in the war or not, although it is quite likely that he did.
Back then, he was in his prime days and was stronger than all the other Kage. In fact, it is said that Hiruzen, in his prime, was stronger than Hashirama, however, a glimpse of his skill during the prime days was never shown.
