The world of Sword Art Online has its characters see a new gaming realm where it isn't just something you play on a screen, but a virtual world anyone can practically live in. Unfortunately, it's also a world where someone can become trapped in it, and it was a fate that befell 10,000 characters.

In this series, characters can be seen at various life stages, so it can be hard to keep track of how old certain characters are supposed to be. That's not taking into account that some characters aren't entirely human. So giving them an exact age can vary if one counts biology or timećƒ¼however, some characters do have ages, and here are the ones Reki Kawahara managed to give to fans.

10 Kazuto Kirigaya / Kirito (14 - 17)

Kirigaya Kazuto, also known as Narusaka Kazuto and "Kirito," is the overall protagonist of the main series of Sword Art Online. Orphaned at a young age, adopted by his aunt, Kazuto grew up to become a prominent hacker and a skilled gamer.

In the virtual reality of Sword Art Online, he'd develop many names, from the Black Swordsman to the Star King. Kazuto is 14 at the start of the Aincrad Arc, 16 towards its end, and 17 throughout the Phantom Bullet Arc and Alicization Arc.

9 Asuna Yuuki / Asuna (15 - 18)

Asuna Yuuki, also known as just Asuna and temporarily as Stacia, is the main heroine of the main series, going from a protagonist to a deuteragonist. The daughter of a former CEO of RECT Inc., she was one of the players trapped within the Sword Art Online virtual reality.

Asuna's age varies throughout the series. She is 15 at the start of the Aincrad Arc. Towards the end of it, she is 17. By the Phantom Butler Arc, she is 18.

8 Suguha Kirigaya / Leafa (15 - 17)

Kirigaya Suguha, also known by the aliases "Leafa" and "Terraria," is a recurring character throughout the series, taking a prominent role in various arcs and spin-offs. She's Kazuto's cousin and surrogate sibling and became a kendo practitioner to appease their grandfather when Kazuto decided to leave the field. She eventually became involved in the virtual reality of Sword Art Online when Kazuto was trapped inside the game.

She is 15 at the start of the Fairy Dance Arc, 16 at the Phantom Bullet Arc, and 17 during the Alicization Arc and Unital Ring Arc.

7 Shino Asada / Sinon (16 - 17)

Asada Shino, also known as "Sinon" and "Solus," is a character who takes on a prominent role during the Phantom Bullet Arc and the Alicization Arc.

A skilled player in the game, she uses the virtual world to overcome personal traumas, eventually becoming a powerful archer. She is 16 during the Phantom Bullet Arc and the Alicization Arc. During the Unital Ring Arc, she was 17 years old.

6 Yuuki Konno / Yuuki (15)

Konno Yuuki, also known as Yuuki, takes a prominent role in the series' side stories. She is one of the founders and leaders of the "Sleeping Knights" guild.

Once terminally ill, she joined forces with other players in a similar position who used the gameplay as a form of informal sedative care. She was 15 around the time of her death, having been born in 2010 and eventually passing away in 2026.

5 Eugeo (11 - 19)

Eugeo is a prominent character during the start of the Alicization Arc. Born in a remote village of the Underworld's human empire, he was tasked with taking on a giant tree, the Gigas Cedar, with Kirito. However, when his childhood friend, Alice Zuberg, was apprehended by a knight, he eventually devoted himself to rescuing her, becoming a knight, and proving himself able to use the Blue Rose Sword.

Eugeo appears at different ages throughout the series. He is 11 during a prologue and 17 during the first chapter of the arc. He is 19 throughout most of his later appearances, even until his death, bisected by Quinella.

4 Alice Zuberg (11 - 17)

Alice Zuberg becomes a prominent character during the Alicization Arc. The daughter of a village chief, she was a childhood friend of Eugeo and Kirito who was taken and forced to become an Integrity Knight, where she was stripped of her memories and became known through the alias, "Alice Synthesis Thirty."

Like Eugeo, she was 11 during the prologue of the arc, 17 during its first chapter, and 19 when she appears in a later chapter.

3 Ryotaro Tsuboi / Klein (22 - 25)

Tsuboi Ryotaro, also known as Klein, is a recurring character throughout the series, prominent during the Aincrad Arc. He was one of the 10,000 characters trapped in the virtual reality world. He's been seen as both a guild leader and a Salamander.

One of the older prominent characters was 22 at the start of the Aincrad Arc, becoming 24 by the end of it. By the Phantom Bullet Arc, he was 25.

2 Andrew Gilbert Mills / Agil (27 - 30)

Andrew Gilbert Mills, also known as Agil, is a recurring character throughout the series, taking a prominent role during the Aincrad Arc. He was one of the 10,000 players trapped within the virtual reality world, where he was an ax-wielder and a merchant, eventually going on to manage Dicey Cafe with his wife. He's also been seen as a Gnome.

One of the older recurring characters, he was 27 during the start of the Aincrad Arc, 29 towards the end of it and throughout the Fairy Dance Arc, and 30 during the Phantom Bullet Arc. That said, his year of birth is unclear, either being in 1994 or 1995.

1 Keiko Ayano / Silica (14 - 15)

Ayano Keiko, also known as Silica, takes a prominent role during the Aincrad arc and some of the series' spin-offs, becoming a recurring character throughout the series. She was one of the 10,000 players trapped within the virtual reality world and was seen as both a Beast Tamer and a Cait Sith.

She was 12 at the start of the Aincrad arc, 14 towards the end of the arc and during the Fairy Bullet Arc, and 15 during the Phantom Bullet Arc.
