Fans have been tuning in weekly to see Marvel's latest TV series, WandaVision, and series creator Jac Schaeffer wants them to pay close attention to the show's in-sitcom commercials.
Schaeffer made the recommendation during an interview with ET. As WandaVision episodes have been released on Disney+, fans are coming up with different theories about the commercials. The writer championed their speculation by stating, "I actually haven't paid very close attention to the commercial speculation, because there's so much to look at. The commercials, people are very focused on the Easter eggs of it and the meaning of it, which is great and what I want. I want fans to be engaged in that way."
"But also," she added, "when I watched the shows, I'm reminded that it was a structural thing. When you watch a sitcom, commercial breaks are part of the rhythm of the show, so that sort of dip away and come back is actually very much part of the fabric of the sitcom aesthetic."
Schaeffer was asked if there were any connections between WandaVision and the Marvel television universe. Schaeffer coyly answered, "This is where I'm going to talk about something entirely different. What can we talk about? [Laughs] It rained yesterday!" Along with the in-show commercials, Schaeffer teased that the series will dive more into Wanda Maximoff's relationship with her late brother Pietro. Series star Paul Bettany has also teased the upcoming appearance of a mystery actor.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
