10 Ways Aquaman Is Actually Extremely Dangerous | CBR

For many years, Aquaman has become something of a joke to general audiences. Also known as Arthur Curry or Orin, depending on if he’s on land or in the sea, Aquaman has abilities beyond even the most powerful of metahumans. For a while, though, he was just depicted as the silly superhero who rides seahorses and talks with dolphins.

Aquaman is, and has always been, more than that. In fact, he can actually be incredibly dangerous, even if he doesn’t always let that fact on. The simple truth is that, if Aquaman wanted to, he could be a dangerous weapon on par with Superman, but he chooses to do good instead.

10 He’s Stronger Than He Lets On

Superman is often depicted as the strongest member of the Justice League. However, there are other members of the team like Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman, who is, in essence, a god. She is not only shockingly strong but so is Aquaman. He is a royal Atlantean, the child of an Atlantean, and inherited their abilities. Even more than that, he displays a shocking amount of strength just on a regular basis.

He swims to and from the bottom of the ocean without injury, displaying that his body can withstand the weight of the ocean, something that would crush a lesser being. He does it so effortlessly that people don’t realize how powerful this move truly is.

9 He’s A Literal Superhuman

The lost city of Atlantis may feel like a myth but, to the people of the DC Universe, this is a very real place. This is also Arthur’s kingdom; he and his people, the Atlanteans, are humans that once adapted to live underwater. These superhumans continued to evolve beyond humanity to become superhuman, and, in some cases, even more powerful than metahumans.

Atlantean bodies are incredibly strong and durable; they’re able to endure the entire weight of the ocean, they can swim at impossibly fast speeds, they can breathe water, and have all sorts of other skills. Being that Arthur is also half-human, he has all of these abilities, and he can survive on land, too. He’s an actual, literal superhuman.

8 He Can Survive Anywhere

Being that Aquaman is an Atlantean, he has the ability to breathe underwater. He can not just breathe underwater, but he can live and function underwater as any Atlantean does. His father, however, was a human, and that means that Aquaman is capable of living on land, as well. Unlike other Atlanteans, Aquaman can function just as well on the land as he can in the water.

As a result, there is nowhere people can go that they will be safe from Aquaman. As a member of the Justice League, he also has connections to get him into outer space, and once he’s there, it’s clear he won’t stop until he gets the job done.

7 He Could See Anyone In The Dark

One of Aquaman’s skills that people don’t know much about is his ability to see at exceptional distances and through almost anything. As he can see in the darkest, murkiest depths of the ocean, his eyes have developed to also have incredible night vision, whether he’s on land or in the sea.

Because he can see at such incredible depths, his vision is stronger than pretty much any other human. He’s beyond humanity, and his eyes can see beyond them, too. There is nowhere anybody could hide from Aquaman.

6 Energy And Heat Don’t Bother Him

Aquaman’s body is not only incredibly strong, but it can endure a great deal of trauma, just like Superman’s skin can. He’s tough, and not just because he can withstand a lot of weight. On multiple occasions, when Aquaman has been attacked with energy blasts or heat-based beams, he has emerged unscathed.

Heat vision and energy blasts alike seem to have no effect on Aquaman, something that does affect his fellow members of the Justice League. This just stands to make people wonder what else Aquaman could withstand, and if his skin is even tougher than he lets anybody know about.

5 He Has One Of The Most Powerful Bodies In The World

Aquaman may not be a literal metahuman, but his body may surpass metahumans in many ways regardless. He is shown as running nearly as fast as the Flash — though not quite as fast — and he’s the fastest swimmer who has ever existed. On multiple occasions, it has been stated that Aquaman is the greatest swimmer in the world, and if he’s fast on the land and nobody is faster than him in the sea, then it is almost impossible to get away from Aquaman. No matter where someone is, Aquaman can find them, and he can get to them fairly quickly if he wants to.

4 All Sea Creatures Are At His Every Whim

A joke that often gets made about Aquaman is that he’s just the guy who goofs around with whales and fish. However, his bond with sea creatures goes far beyond this. Aquaman has shown that he is not only able to communicate directly with aquatic life and summon them as needed, but he is strong enough to even exert certain levels of control over aquatic life.

As the comics develop, Aquaman can interact with aquatic life on other planets, and can even, for a time, summon undead aquatic life to do his bidding. With so many nasty sea monsters at his beck and call, Aquaman is a constant threat.

3 He Can Alter The Fabric Of Reality

Aquaman’s skills go so far as to become straight-up telepathy skills. He even learns how to channel his psionic force, something beyond the understanding of most humans, and turn it into psychic waves. His brain becomes so powerfully strong that he can use his telepathy to alter the very fabric of reality on a microcosmic level.

Through the power of Aquaman’s mind and his mind alone, Aquaman can reach deep into the ancient and deepest primordial cores of the earth and of marine life and change evolution itself. This power is completely bonkers and terrifying to even Aquaman’s ancestors in the comics.

2 He’s A Genius On Par With Batman

Characters like Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, are considered to be the true geniuses of the DC Universe and on the Justice League team. However, Aquaman is no slouch when it comes to mental gymnastics. Aquaman is one of the members of the Justice League with a genius-level intellect, being able to single-handedly work the cybernetics and engineering tech that the Justice League helps develop and work with. He’s also a skilled tactician, a practiced diplomat, and a natural leader.

1 He Trained His Body To Fight Even Harder

As if Aquaman’s innate natural abilities aren’t enough, he wants to become even more powerful, and he trains himself to do so. He trains himself harder at swimming and becomes even better than he already is, and learns multiple different fighting styles, as well. Like other Justice League members, he’s excellent at hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, and could beat almost anybody in a battle in close quarters. He may be beyond the powers of superhumans, but he always wants to be better.
