WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Big Sky Season 1, Episode 8, "The End is Near," now available on ABC.
ABC's Big Sky continues to throw the sadistic Ron (Brian Geraghty) down the rabbit hole after his human trafficking ring got exposed and his partner, Rick (John Carroll Lynch), ended up with memory loss in a Montana hospital. Ron's paranoid he's going to be caught once his partner wakes up, and is trying hard to clean up evidence and former victims who could incriminate him.
Unfortunately, it all culminated in him killing his mom, Helen, and as he slips further into desperation, his descent into madness claims two new victims.
Ron barely avoids being apprehended by Cassie and Jenny at Merrilee's home at the start of the episode, fleeing with key evidence Rick had against him. But he's still in dire straits as the press is running his sketches non-stop, and he can feel the clock ticking down. This constant coverage results in a young kid, Erik, working his paper route, recognizing him. Erik's mom ignores the boy, however, and later on, he tries to snap pictures of Ron picking up his paper. Unfortunately, Ron senses something's off and grabs the kid, placing him in a cage in the basement.
Erik tries to escape, even wounding Ron a bit with a stapler gun, but he ends up petrified when he finds Helen's body down there. The kid realizes Ron's not playing and that he's marked for death. He tries to lie about telling anyone about Ron in their cat-and-mouse game of questioning, but it's interrupted by a priest who visits to speak to Helen. Ron lies and says she's visiting her cancer-stricken sister, but the man doesn't buy it. He comes in to speak to Ron about Helen's concerns with his sexual repression, but an argument breaks out. Ron's upset the man tried to baptize him years ago, and when Erik starts making noise in the basement, Ron tries to shoo the priest away.
Sadly, the priest sneaks into the basement to find Ron intimidating the kid and a massive fight breaks out. It concludes in the kitchen with Ron ironically drowning him in the kitchen sink, gaining his warped sense of revenge as he really hates that idea of religion. After the violent altercation, Ron is at his wit's end, though, and starts pouring gasoline in the basement, ready to burn the house. The episode ends there, but hopefully, the cops can track the boy before it's too late.
Big Sky stars Katheryn Winnick, Ryan Phillippe, Kylie Bunbury, Brian Geraghty and Valerie Mahaffey. It airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
