American Gods: Mr. World and Laura Moon Team Up for a Deadly Game

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for American Gods Season 3, Episode 7, “Fire and Ice,” which aired Sunday on Starz.

Last week on American Gods, Mr. World approached Laura Moon and Salim about their common enemy, Mr. Wednesday. This week, Season 3, Episode 7, "Fire and Ice," picks up where they left off, with the two humans accompanying Mr. World to his headquarters to strike a deadly deal.

Mr. World, the leader of the New Gods, is primarily interested in Laura since she is planning to kill Mr. Wednesday, and the Allfather is the New Gods' biggest threat at the moment. Since Season 1, Mr. Wednesday has been planning a war against the New Gods because of the threat they pose to the Old Gods, and with Wednesday actively expanding his ranks with deities and mortal followers, Mr. World needs to stop Odin.

Meanwhile, Laura has been planning to kill Wednesday because of the role he played in her death, and with a third chance at life, she's planning on stopping him from causing anyone else serious trouble. However, she's run into a handful of roadblocks. One she does not have Gungnir, the spear that could kill Mr. Wednesday. Two, Shadow Moon refuses to help Laura despite how horrible Wednesday can be. Three, the only lead she had about Mr. Wednesday's location has turned up dry, so Mr. World offering to help her with this mission is appealing, especially since he can allegedly get her the spear.

Mr. World asks Laura to kill Mr. Wednesday on his behalf. If she does, then the Old Gods would assume this was simply a personal issue between Laura and the god who plotted her first death. This would hopefully stop any of the Old Gods from lashing out at the New Gods, ending any notion about a war.

While Laura is eager to agree to this, Salim, who was formerly a businessman, pulls her aside and establishes that they need to better negotiate this deal to secure her safety, especially given the unpredictable and manipulative nature of the Gods. Returning to their meeting, the two have their terms and conditions.

Along with Mr. World covering any of the expenses she rings up on her mission, if she succeeds in killing Mr. Wednesday, they will provide her with immediate extraction and 24 hours of protection from all parties who could seek retribution. Furthermore, she will owe nothing else to the New Gods after this, and Laura adds the caveat that this protection will cover Salim and Shadow as well.

However, if she fails, then they will kill all three of them. While Salim was fine with the terms Laura and him proposed, he's hesitant about the cost they'll pay if Laura fails. Regardless, Laura agrees to this, eager to finally have the proper resources to pursue Mr. Wednesday, hopeful she can end Odin's reign.

Based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, American Gods stars Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Bruce Langley, Yetide Badaki, Ian McShane, Omid Abtahi and Ashley Reyes. The series airs Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Starz.
