Batman: 10 Collectible Vehicles That Look Right Out Of The Comics

The Batmobile may be the most famous vehicle he has, but it's not the only one. When it comes to Batman, no one can top his ways of transportation. He has had cars, boats, motorcycles, planes, helicopters, tanks, and whatever the Knightcrawler was from Justice League. Batman isn't the only one with cool vehicles though. His allies and enemies have had multiple modes of transportation in the comics and on the screen.

Gotham City can be a very scary place, so it's important to have quick ways to get out of sticky situations. No other comic book character, aside from maybe Iron Man, has the gadgets and vehicles that Batman has. Of course, this provides great opportunities for Toy Companies to cash in on. The great thing about Batman toys is that they're all unique, but some Bat-vehicles have matched their comic book and movie counterparts more than others.

10 Shatter Missile Batmobile - Batman & Robin

Batman and Robin is one of the greatest comedy movies ever made. It wasn't supposed to be, but it turned out that way. Director Joel Schumacher recalls the studio wanting a movie that could be made "toyetic." Despite the movie being a disappointment, the design of Gotham had a fun feel to it. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane weren't the most dramatic characters but combined with Batman, Robin, and Batgirl there was a plethora of toy opportunities. Kenner released two batmobiles for their toy line, the Sonic batmobile and the Ice Shatter batmobile. The Ice Shatter batmobile was a perfect match to the movie, with a sleek and simple look. It also came with a missile that shot out of the front and had two plastic blades above the headlights which were perfect for blasting through the ice and cutting through vines.

9 BatCopter - Batman (1989)

1989s Batman began a whole new era for the comic book movie genre. Although not actually in the movie, the Bat-Copter is a fun creation that was made just for toy lovers. Batman's helicopter was equipped with a launching missile and realistic propellers that spun. It also was light in weight so kids of all ages could use the copter to fly around their rooms. This toy was also a fun callback to the 1966 Bat-Copter that Adam West and Burt Ward used to fly around Gotham. The DC Super Powers toy line also released a Bat-Copter, but the 1989 version looked sharper with its polished black color and Bat-Logo's on the two wings of the copter.

8 Batmobile - Legends Of Batman

The Legends of Batman was more of a comic book toy line than it was a movie one. It was a different take on Gothamites with some unusual color schemes, but it was a nice change from the simple black and dark colors. This line of toys came out during the lull period between Batman Returns and Batman Forever.

Legends served almost as a bridge toy line between the darker Tim Burton movies and the lighter Joel Schumacher movies. This Batmobile looked really cool thanks to the silver paint job and the bigger wheels. The light-up headlights added some flare, and the car was loaded with the familiar projecting missile. This version of Batman's ride was the first to have the big wings on the back and would serve as an inspiration to future Batmobile's.

7 Batmobile - DC Super Powers

The 1966 Batman show has an iconic Batmobile, but the DC Super Powers batmobile was based on the early comic books, and the paint job just stood out more. That classic DC Super Powers box caught anyone's attention within view, prompting them to stop and take a glance. In addition to the classic logo on both doors, the hood had Batman's cowl painted on it. This version wasn't as flashy as later versions and almost looked like a regular car with Batman's logo on the rims of the wheels. The orange windshields also made the car pop and had cool silver seating and dashboards. The best part has to be the bumper Bat-Ram that would detach in and out by hitting a switch on the back.

6 Joker Van - Batman (1989)

Batman wasn't the only character to get it on the motor vehicular fun. Joker got his own van, and it looked great. The classic purple paint job matches the Clown Prince of Crime's vintage suit. The yellow and green wheels also stand out and are perfect for a crazy clown van. The two doors open so Bob the goon could drive Joker around, while Joker's pop-up roof seat allowed him to fire at the Batmobile. The Joker's face and logo are plastered all over the van, and the front face actually shot out blasts of water to slip up Batman or anyone else chasing the van.

5 Bat-Boat - Batman Forever

Batman Forever was a lighter take on the Caped Crusader, but this gave Kenner a better chance at targeting a younger audience. What kid wouldn't like filling up the tub and splashing around with the Bat-Boat? The design matched the Batmobile (more on that later) and had a big batwing sticking off the back. The boat also could open up and turn into a land vehicle if Batman was chasing The Riddler and Two-Face through the harbor, or just following a Boston sports championship team on a duck boat. Whatever the case may be, the boat could float which allowed kids to bring it in a pool or to the beach. Surfs up, Bat-dude!

4 Tumbler Batmobile - Batman Begins

Batman Begins brought seriousness back into Gotham and gave fans a more realistic take on Batman. There weren't as many toys and merchandise as there were for the previous four films, but some were made. The Tumbler Batmobile was the perfect toy because it resembled a tank and what young boy doesn't love tanks and Batman?

The design of the toy was 100% accurate to the film. Every button and piece is there for a reason and would make Batman Begins director Christopher Nolan proud.  It comes loaded with two projected missiles and has the big wheels used for tanking around town. "There goes Tank-Man... just tanking around town. Over."

3 Bat-Wing - Batman (1989)

The Bat-Wing is one the smartest, yet simplest inventions for the character. Who wouldn't think to make a plane that's in the shape of the Bat-symbol? What makes this Bat-Wing truly unique is that it can turn into two additional vehicles. The design is simple but looks sharp and offers the usual missiles and weaponry. However, the wings can pop off easily and a wheel can flip up so it can fly, ride, and glide through and above the streets of Gotham. Batman Returns and Batman Forever would create similar versions of the Bat-Wing, but the original still stands the test of time. This vehicle was a kid's dream come true and is one of Kenner's greatest accomplishments.

2 Batmobile - Batman Forever

Batman Forever may have been campy but the Batmobile still looked great. The design was highly detailed and really lit up a toy box. The previously mentioned Bat-Boat would use a similar design, but it was the Batmobile that was head and shoulders above the rest. This was also the first Batmobile that was fully electronic and had an engine that would light up when a button was pressed. In addition to the electronic engine, the two back wings would flip open and had blaster rays for taking out villains. The missile was bigger than normal and was perfect for kids trying to knock over other toys, i.e. Kevin McCalister in Home Alone. The wheels would also light up and had some really cool silver rims. This Batmobile may have been considered too flashy for the screen, but it made for one heck of a nightlight, or toy.

1 Batmobile - Batman Returns

The Batmobile from Batman was awesome, but the toy version was missing an important part. There was no retracting roof door so when Batman Returns came out, Kenner made up for their mistake and added a door that flipped open. The all-black design with yellow rims is so iconic and is why this Batmobile is considered the top dog when it comes to all Batman vehicles. In addition to the toy projectiles, this vehicle can be broken into three parts and allows it to squeeze into tight spots like Batman does in the film. Kenner did an amazing job creating these toys and their resemblance to the movie couldn't be matched.
