Bleach's star may be Ichigo Kurosaki, but the supporting characters get more than their fair share of exciting fight scenes, too. That includes Rukia Kuchiki, the Soul Reaper who introduced Ichigo to the world of Hollows and zanpakuto one fateful night. Rukia has faced many terrifying foes and survived.
At first, Rukia couldn't do much in the anime's first season. But when the Soul Society arc concluded, Rukia was back in fighting shape, and she fought by Ichigo's side as an equal and as a trusted friend. How did her five best fight scenes turn out? She has faced deadly Arrancars, the Sternritter, and even Fullbring, and there shall be no mercy.
10 Rukia Kuchiki Vs D.Roy Rinker, The 16th Arrancar
During the Arrancar arc, Rukia returned to her full Soul Reaper form at last, and just in time. Grimmjow Jeagerjaques and his cronies were on the prowl, and Ichigo needed all the help he could get. Ichigo and his friend Chad faced an Arrancar named D.Roy, but before any blows were exchanged, Rukia arrived.
Chad was sent away, while Rukia urged Ichigo to step back and allow her to handle this foe. To Ichigo's astonishment, Rukia appeared as a Soul Reaper once she ate a piece of soul candy, and she had a fancy new zanpakuto, too.
9 The Winner: Rukia Kuchiki, With Sode No Shirayuki
Rukia drew her sword just as D.Roy rushed at her, and Rukia was pushed back as D.Roy repeatedly hammered at her with his bare hands. Rukia was unscathed, but she also didn't get a chance to strike back. D.Roy was liking his odds.
Then Rukia got her chance: she activated her shikai at last (Sode no Shirayuki), and formed a glowing ring on the ground. D.Roy leaped into the air to avoid it, but then he got himself trapped in a massive ice pillar, and his fate was sealed.
8 Rukia Vs. Aaroniero Arurruerie, The 9th Espada
Later, in the Hueco Mundo arc, Rukia and her friend Renji Abarai joined Ichigo's party to go rescue Orihime Inoue, and the squad split up within Las Noches to cover more ground. Rukia was shocked to see sunlight within Las Noches' vast interior, and then an Espada arrived to explain everything inside his palace.
This was Aaroniero Arurruerie, the 9th Espada, and he removed his mask (an artificial one) to reveal himself as Kaien Shiba, back from the dead. But Rukia saw through Kaien's ploy, and the fight was on. Rukia must cross swords with Kaien once again, in a manner of speaking.
7 The Winner: Rukia Kuchiki, Albeit Narrowly
Aaroniero was more powerful than Rukia, and he had Kaien Shiba's shikai and memories to aid him. Rukia, however, had an idea: she locked Aaroniero in place with a kido spell, then blew up the wall to admit sunlight into the palace. Aaronierio's true face was shown.
Rukia was shocked, but she kept on fighting until Aaroniero released his zanpakuto (Glotoneria) and badly injured her. After recalling Kaien's kind words, Rukia used her shikai's newest mode, forming an ice blade that stabbed Aaroniero's head. Rukia won, but she soon collapsed, unable to continue her mission to save Rukia.
6 Rukia Vs Rudborrn Chelute, The Exequias Captain
After Orihime was rescued, Rukia was revived thanks to Hanataro Yamada's healing hands, and Rukia was ready for more action. She and her friends faced Yammy Llargo, and then Rukia found herself up against Rudborrn Chelute, commander of Las Noches's security detail.
Rudborrn had already demonstrated his power, the ability to create countless skull-headed minions to swarm his enemies. Ichigo didn't have time to bother with this, so Rukia swore to finish off Rudbornn alone. Could she pull it off?
5 The Winner: Yammy Llargo, The Impatient Espada
Rudbornn's zanpakuto, Arbol, allowed him to form a strange tree-like form with his body, and continuously generate new minions to fight on his behalf. He was like a one-man army, but Rukia could handle the likes of him.
Rukia's ice powers froze Rudbornn's branches, halting his ability to grow new "fruit." Then Yammy barged in on the battle, blasting the frozen Rudbornn away with his fist. Rudbornn was never seen again, and Yammy effectively stole Rukia's victory.
4 Rukia Vs Riruka Dokugamine, The Fullbring
Ichigo and his friends faced the Fullbring in mortal combat long after Aizen's defeat, and Rukia came along for the ride. Ichigo's main enemy was Ginjo, while Rukia ended up facing Riruka Dokugamine, a Fullbring girl with some rather dazzling abilities.
Rukia found herself inside a dollhouse of sorts, surrounded by plushies. Riruka could control them, and even alter Rukia's mental or physical state with ranged attacks. Rukia couldn't bear the thought of killing a human like Riruka, putting her at a disadvantage.
3 The Winner: None (Riruka Escaped)
Rukia and Riruka's battle was a fairly bloodless one, with Riruka trying to overwhelm Rukia with plushes while Rukia used her ice powers in return to try and trap Riruka. The two girls argued about their philosophies and their goals in life, and then Riruka made one last move.
Rukia had freed herself from the dollhouse by then, but she was too slow to prevent Riruka from putting a hand to her chest and knocking her out. Riruka took this chance to flee, and she was never caught. Rukia couldn't claim victory, but at least she wasn't badly hurt, either.
2 Rukia Vs As Nodt, The Fear-Inducing Sternritter
Later still, the powerful Quincy empire made its move, and the 26 Sternritter were determined to claim victory. Sternritter "F" As Nodt captured Captain Byakuya Kuchiki's bankai and defeated him with it, then left the battle. But he would return before long.
The Soul Reapers launched their counter-offensive, and Sternritter both familiar and new arrived to challenge them, from BG9 to Bambietta Basterbine and As Nodt himself. This time, it was Rukia who faced As, and she felt confident about her odds. It was on.
1 The Winner: Rukia Kuchiki, With Her New Bankai
Rukia had a secret weapon on her side: her ability to freeze her body to the point that all life signs were suppressed. She was effectively dead, more akin to a golem than anything, which rendered her immune to As's fear-based effects. Rukia dealt a serious blow, but then As used his own ace in the hole.
With his Tatar Foras form, As Nodt nearly overwhelmed Rukia, until Byakuya arrived and snapped Rukia out of it. With Byakuya to guide her, Rukia used her bankai, Hakka no Togame, and froze As Nodt to death once and for all.
