Brandy Serenades Fans as Cinderella Once More | CBR

A day before the 1997 version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella debuted on Disney+, singer Brandy Norwood reprised the film's titular role in a new video with entertainer Todrick Hall.

Posted on YouTube on Feb. 11, the "Cinderella Medley" clip opens with Hall sitting at a piano and opening a lyric sheet, at which point he is introduced by Victor Garber (King Maximillian). Hall then begins to sing a medley of songs from the film, including "The Sweetest Sounds" and "In My Own Little Corner," before Brandy appears and starts trading verses with him.

The pair take things to the next level when Hall starts waving around a wand and the two are transported to a full-on ball, complete with Brandy rocking a beautiful blue Cinderella gown that's almost identical to the one she wore in the original film.

While Hall fills in for Paolo Montalbán during the "10 Minutes Ago" portion of the medley, the actor who portrayed Prince Christopher shows up towards the end of the video, along with costars Veanne Cox, Jason Alexander and Bernadette Peters to help sing "Impossible." Whoopi Goldberg, who portrayed the queen in the film, also appears at the end of the video to remind the audience that they can watch the film on Disney+.

Hall's medley debuted on the same day that the surviving members of the film's cast reunited for a virtual reunion that was put together by EW. "It feels like we were very fortunate to be put together and nobody knows at the time you do anything, what the impact [was] going to be," Garber said in a teaser from the reunion. "And this has clearly had an impact and I think everyone here is really grateful to be a part of it."

During the same conversation, Bernadette Peters -- who portrayed Cinderella's evil stepmom -- celebrated how progressive the 1997 film was at the time of its release. "It was an honor to be part of something so wonderful back then. And even now," Peters recalled. "And it was so multicultural... It's just so wonderful that children that were watching it could just enjoy it and -- all the different kinds of people that were in it -- and not even question it."

Hall previously revealed that the version of Cinderella starring Brandy and Whitney Houston was the first musical he ever saw. In addition to his various YouTube medleys, Hall starred as Lola in Kinky Boots on Broadway as Billy Flynn in Chicago on Broadway and the West End in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Directed by Robert Iscove, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella stars Brandy, Whitney Houston, Paolo Montalbán, Whoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, Victor Garber, Veanne Cox, and Natalie Desselle. The film is streaming on Disney+ now.
