Horror icon Bruce Campbell released a cryptic post about filming in London, leading Marvel fans to believe he'll appear in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Campbell's Tweet showcased London's skyline, the location where director Sam Raimi was shooting Doctor Strange's sequel. He captioned the photo, "Boy, it was a blast, working in a certain city, with a certain director on a certain movie with a certain actor - it sure was!"
Before this recent post, Campbell dropped a 15-second video on Twitter titled "Quarantine short film #1: London intersection," which initially sparked rumors about his involvement in Sam Raimi's first entry as a director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Raimi and Campbell started out as filmmaking collaborators in high school before achieving mainstream success together with their 1981 horror film The Evil Dead, which spawned an entire franchise starring Campbell's protagonist Ash Williams. Campbell has since played Ash in The Evil Dead's Raimi-directed movie sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, three video games and the Starz television series Ash vs. Evil Dead.
Campbell has regularly cameoed in Raimi's projects, including Prince of Thieves in Xena: Warrior Princess and three separate characters in Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
Raimi took over directing Multiverse of Madness after Scott Derrickson, who directed 2016's Doctor Strange, stepped down from the MCU project. Former Spider-Man composer Danny Elfman recently announced his involvement in the film's soundtrack.
While plot details on Raimi's upcoming film remain scarce, it's confirmed that Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will appear alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff. Actor Xochitl Gomez has also been cast as Marvel heroine America Chavez.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
