Charmed: Mel & Ruby's Romance May Return | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Charmed Season 3, Episode 2, "Someone's Going to Die," which aired Sunday on The CW.

Charmed's latest episode, "Someone's Going to Die," reunited Mel with her ex-girlfriend Ruby, opening the door for their rekindled romance. Ruby last saw Mel in Season 2, reluctantly using her magic to help save The Charmed Ones despite being committed to a no-magic life. After seeing her wind spell save her and her sisters, Mel tried to convince Ruby to use magic again. However, Ruby reminded Mel that she can't control her choices, leaving them at odds. In Charmed Season 3, Episode 2, Mel visits Ruby to ask her a favor, which Ruby senses is just an excuse to see her.

Mel asks to borrow a crystal from Ruby's room. Although Ruby brings the crystal to assist The Charmed Ones with their spell against The Fraction's barriers, she asks Mel why she asked for her crystal, since it's not a rare item. At the time, Mel remains quiet about her real reason for asking Ruby's help -- to see her again -- and instead insists that she steer clear of The Charmed Ones for now so that Mel knows that she is safe and that she isn't the one fated to die from Maggie's prophecy. Ruby offers to help further, but Mel replies, "You already did."

After The Charmed Ones defeat Aunt Viv, the head of The Faction, Mel meets with Ruby again at the SafeSpace bar to discuss her feelings. Mel admits, "The crystal, I could have gotten it from somewhere else, but I wanted to see you. I wasn't sure I'd get that chance again." Ruby asks Mel, "So now that you have that chance again, where does that leave us?"

Before the two can further discuss how they could be together, despite having wildly different approaches to magic in their lives, Ruby coughs up ash. Mel brings Ruby to her fellow sisters and Harry and they deem that Ruby is sick from some magical influence. The Witchness protection board lights up in red, showing that all witches -- including The Charmed Ones -- are in danger. Upon closer reflection, Macy sees that the demon world is also in equal amounts of trouble. Then, The Charmed Ones recall The Guardian's warning.

The Guardian foretold that if a human touches the black amber then the magical world would descend into darkness again. The sisters run to the black amber basin, seeing that Aunt Viv did touch the magical substance. Black amber is now turned into a greenish goo, seemingly poisoning all in the magical world, including Ruby. "Somebody's Going to Die" ends with Maggie saying, "It's not over." Before Mel and Ruby can determine if a romance is possible, The Charmed Ones will have to find a cure for the death of all magic and magical beings.

Charmed stars Sarah Jeffery, Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Rupert Evans, Valerie Cruz, Ser’Darius Blain and Ellen Tamaki. New episodes of Charmed airs on The CW on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
