Dragon Ball GT: 10 Fights Goku Should Have Lost | CBR

Fans' opinions of Dragon Ball GT are mixed, to put it lightly. It's not all bad, as Super Saiyan 4 was an excellent design, and a few of the villains like Baby were pretty entertaining. However, by and large, it's hated, and a big reason why is because of what they did to Goku. He's the only one that does anything (with Pan standing near him).

Worse than that, the gimmick of turning him back into a kid to relive the Dragon Ball days was awful. It shouldn't have continued the length of the series as it did. The fights weren't much better as many of them resulted in victories for Goku that either made no sense or were riddled with plot convenience.

10 Ledgic would have been the perfect person to give Goku a setback while he adjusts to being in a child form again

It isn't that Ledgic is a particularly strong opponent. He's a starter villain for a reason, after all. The reason Goku should have lost has less to do with him and more to do with Goku becoming a child again.

Ledgic would have been the perfect person to give Goku a setback while he adjusts to being in a child form again. Instead, the only issue Goku ever has as a kid is that he can't Instant Transmission and at times has stamina issues. It makes the whole transformation pointless and stupid.

9 Goku wouldn't have been able to beat the creation had Luud fully absorbed people rather than just storing them inside of him

Luud had an awful design, looking like a giant metal baby. That doesn't change how powerful a being it was, one that took very specific conditions to be able to take down. After it had absorbed Pan and Dolltaki, the machine god was unstoppable, requiring Pan and Goku to strike its heart at the same time.

While they take a few attempts to bring it down, Goku wouldn't have been able to beat the creation had Luud fully absorbed people rather than just storing them inside of him.

8 For a being that was supposedly stronger than Buu, General Rilldo was sure handled fairly easily by Super Saiyan Goku

It'd be one thing if Goku was getting help the entire fight, but it was mostly just the two of them. Rilldo continually kept having to transform to keep up with Goku, who as a kid, should be weaker than his adult form.

It's the biggest issue with the gimmick of Goku as a child. Rarely did it ever come into play during fights. He was just normal Goku, only smaller.

7 had it not been for the timely arrival of Kibito Kai, Goku should have been left off biting the dust against Baby Vegeta

When they first fought, Goku at long last had issues holding a form because he was a kid, Super Saiyan 3 being too much for him. It led to Baby Vegeta whopping up on him in a fight that should have ended with Goku biting the dust had it not been for the timely arrival of Kibito Kai.

The convenience gets even worse when they battle again, and Goku can turn into a Golden Great Ape and eventually a Super Saiyan 4 because he looked at the earth (blutz waves from it being similar to a moon). It was all just a way to reveal the new Super Saiyan form.

6 Goku using Super Dragon Fist doesn't change the fact that he had no business winning against super 17

It's a common thing in shonen and something that will never make sense; A hero will be getting handled by a villain while in their most powerful state, when suddenly they are forced into their weakest form and manage to pull out the victory, normally due to the power of friendship.

Friendship doesn't play a role here, only an irritated android and a legitimately cool callback to Dragon Ball. Goku using Super Dragon Fist in a way similar to how he defeated King Piccolo was nice fan service but doesn't change that he had no business winning.

5 Rage Shenron was beaten by rain...

Battles tended to have extremely lame endings in Dragon Ball GT, few living up to expectations. None are worse than what happened to Rage Shenron. He'd taken complete control of the fight, having drained electricity from the entire city to spread slime throughout it.

He had Goku and Pan on the brink of death when it rains, causing his slime body to short circuit. That's right, one of the seven final bad guys of the series was beaten by rain. It's an example of the writers writing themselves into a corner.

4 Goku should have been punished for toying with foes like Haze Shenron

Haze Shenron is the weakest of his brothers, bar none. He cried out in pain when a brick fell on his foot and should have been easy pickings for Goku. He had a trump card, and that was the fact that his pollution helped weaken those around him until he was able to gain the edge on them.

Goku and Pan are able to strip him of that ability, but only because of the actions of Giyu, a machine mutant who befriended them earlier in the series. It's not as egregious as other moments in the series, but for once Goku should have been punished for toying with foes.

3 After Eis Shenron slashed Goku across the eyes to blind him, It should have given Eis further opening to strike

The fight itself is fine, with Eis surrendering after Goku managed to outclass him in their fight. It's one of the better fights in GT as Eis continually uses underhanded tactics to gain the upper hand against a stronger opponent.

The issue more lies at the end when Eis's surrender is revealed as a trick, allowing him to slash Goku across the eyes to blind him. It should have given him further opening to strike, or at least had Nouva stepped in. Instead, Goku impales him with a punch because his ki senses are so high.

2 Despite other dragons having fought Goku at Super Saiyan 4, namely Eis & Nuova, Syn Shenron was somehow now getting completely overpowered by Goku

Syn Shenron was the alpha and omega of the Shadow Dragons, the strongest of the seven. He rightfully started kicking Goku's tail at the start of the fight as Goku was worn down and also blind. The other Saiyans soon arrive to help with the stamina part of Goku's problem, but not the fact that he's blind.

Despite other dragons having fought Goku at Super Saiyan 4, namely Eis and Nuova, Syn was somehow now getting completely overpowered by Goku. Not to mention Goku was still blind, something that seemingly does not affect the Saiyan.

1 The fight against Omega Shenron is just a mess of fluctuating power levels

The entire fight is filled with moments that don't make sense. First, Goku randomly regains his sight and proceeds to dominate Omega, forcing him to regenerate from a Dragon Hammer that seemingly killed him.

Once back in the fight, Omega starts dominating not only a tiring Goku but a newly arrived Vegeta as well. Eventually, Gogeta comes into play to take the upper hand for a while, but the fight is a mess of fluctuating power levels.
