Godzilla vs. Kong Won't End in a Stalemate | CBR

Ever since the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong premiered online, fans have been debating whether the King of the Monsters or the Eighth Wonder of the World would reign supreme in their long awaited battle. Director Adam Wingard has now added fuel to the speculation by eliminating a third option.

During IGN Fan Fest 2021, Wingard discussed the titular throwdown, saying, "They're beating the shit out of each other and one wins, and...you know, that's it."  Though he didn't give much more info, Wingard's comments should appease fans who were hoping for a definitive winner in the film.

Wingard had previously said that Godzilla vs. Kong will feel like a natural conclusion to the previous films in Legendary's MonsterVerse. "One of the most important things was, is that this feels like a legitimate sequel to those movies [within Legendary's Monsterverse] that this feels like a legitimate match up between Godzilla vs Kong. That even though Kong is a little bit different in this film, it's only because he's aged from the time of the last movie."

Godzilla vs. Kong takes place five years after the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and sees humanity capturing Kong in order to face a rogue Godzilla. The film has also hinted at the appearance of other Kaiju, including a cybernetic organism created from the remains of King Ghidorah.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
