Imposters: Ezra, Richard and Julia Epitomize a Loving, Platonic Friendship

Friendships in tv shows are a staple of the medium. Whether the relationships are life-long or newly formed, each show's heart and soul usually comes from the connections between its characters. Imposters represented a friendship that is unconventional at the start but eventually grows in a satisfying way that keeps it close to reality.

Imposters was a short-lived series that ran from 2017 to 2018 on Bravo. It followed Ezra Bloom, a recently married man who discovers that his new bride has stolen all of his money and left him. She leaves behind a video message stating that finding her would be impossible and any effort to do so will result in private information about his family being made public. After a few weeks of grieving, Ezra is visited by Richard, another victim of his ex-wife. The two team up to try and find the runaway bride before eventually running into Julia Langmore, who turns out to be yet another person scammed by the ex-wife. The trio team up to hunt her down and get justice for the lives they lost.

Ezra, Richard and Julia could not be more different from one another. Ezra is the son of a successful businessman and works for his father, Richard is the manager of a car dealership with a pro football past and Julia is a struggling artist with rich parents. The only thing that connects them is Ava, or Alice or Cece -- whatever name their ex-wife was going by at the time. Together, they attempt to traverse the country in hopes of finding and confronting her. In order to do this, however, they needed to beat her at her own game. They became scammers, stealing from people just like she does. In order to keep their morality in check, they made a code to follow that clearly stated the rules of their scam, including rules of conduct if they run into their ex-wife.

As the trio grew closer, they also drifted further apart. They simply could not blend together and make it all work out until they eventually found a common ground and kept the mission first. While they would each eventually break the code they made, they always found solace in each other. By the start of their search, all three had left their lives behind, taking the trip with what little money and resources they had on them. They had to learn to adapt to the new lives thrust upon them and eventually learn to trust each other, especially when they have to break that trust in order to get what's best for everyone.

The series sees the trio through some of the worst moments of their lives as their secrets start to spill out. While each of their worlds is crumbling around them, they hold onto each other through it all. The trio is also purely platonic. As most shows tend to pair characters off, Imposters makes the love between Ezra, Richard and Julia one of the kindest and most fulfilling friendships on television.
