James Gunn Jokingly Takes Credit for Thanos Video | CBR

Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe director James Gunn shared his humorous take on the viral video of a child beating up Thanos to help The Avengers.

Gunn shared the video footage from a kid's party gone wrong -- although with the best of intentions at heart -- with the caption, "I finally start working on my dream Marvel-DC cinematic crossover & some bastard leaks footage on the first day of shooting. So uncool."

In the shared footage, a child is seen running up to a Thanos-actor -- who is already being tackled by a Batman actor -- and kicking the Thanos-actor in their head. The actor portraying Iron-Man soon brings their metallic hands to their head, shocked at what just happened.

Gunn's joking reply was pointed at Batman fighting besides The Avengers and not indicative of a future project. However, his joke gathered immediate support from his fan-base who asked if there would ever be a crossover film between The Big Two comic worlds.

Currently, Gunn is filming HBO Max's Peacemaker series, featuring WWE legend and actor John Cena reprising his role as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker. The eight-episode series expands upon the world that Gunn created in his upcoming DCEU film, The Suicide Squad. While the plot is being kept secret, Gunn previously stated that Peacemaker "is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series."

HBO Max's Peacemaker joined Twitter officially on Feb. 18, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at its cast and crew on set. The account also posted photos of Smith's mobile home, stating, "Are you ready for what the [Peacemaker] crew is cooking up?" A prior Cena interview also gave fans a sneak peek at the Peacemaker's home, which includes a John Cena action figure.

Written and produced by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Christopher Heyerdahl, Alison Araya and Lenny Jacobson. The eight-episode series will arrive on HBO Max in January 2022.
