The cast of Legacies recently revealed what it was really like to film the long-awaited "Salvatore: The Musical!" episode, which aired as the third episode of its latest season.
Posted on The CW's YouTube, the featurette found various castmates reflecting on the tribute to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Chris Lee, who portrays vampire Kaleb, said, "It's all about, basically, The Vampire Diaries." Meanwhile, Jenny Boyd (Lizzie Saltzman) added, "From the choreography to the singing, and everybody's numbers, it was a real blast."
It was revealed ahead of the episode's premiere that Lee-as-Kaleb would appear in the musical as Damon Salvatore, who was originally portrayed by Ian Somerhalder in The Vampire Diaries. "Damon is my favorite character in The Vampire Diaries," Lee shared. "And I get to play Damon and I'm so happy."
Ben Levin, who portrays werewolf Jed in Legacies, also opened up about stepping into the role of Stefan Salvatore, noting, "I was honored to depict the great, brooding Paul Wesley. I definitely studied that man's eyebrows, and hopefully, some of that will make its way into the footage."
In the clip, Boyd and her on-screen sister Kaylee Bryant (Josie Saltzman) dished on playing their surrogate mother and the infamous Elena Gilbert, respectively. "Lizzie plays Caroline Forbes, her surrogate mother, and she relishes that," Boyd explained. Bryant pointed out that Josie is pushed by her twin to play Elena, adding, "But I think once Josie gets into the swing of things, she has quite a bit of fun in the musical."
Danielle Rose Russell, who portrays protagonist Hope Mikaelson in the show, also chimed in about debuting her singing voice in the episode, noting, "I've never done that before, so it was definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone. I think it was some of the most fun I've had on the show, to be honest with you."
In the "Salvatore: The Musical!" episode, Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) was tasked with writing a musical about the founding of The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted by mysterious new guidance counselor Dr. Robin Goodfellow. The process of putting the musical together became a comedy of errors, focusing as much on pulling relationships apart as putting them back together.
Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, Matt Davis, Chris Lee, Ben Levin and Leo Howard. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
