An HD port of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year, is coming to the Nintendo Switch in July.
At today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed a trailer for the Switch version of Skyward Sword, presented by Eiji Aonuma. Much like how the original Wii version of the game utilized motion controls via the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the Switch version features a similar control scheme with the Joy-Cons. However, Skyward Sword HD also features a new, more traditional button-only control scheme, allowing the game to be played in handheld mode or on the Switch Lite system.
Set at the beginning of the official Legend of Zelda timeline, Skyward Sword originally released for the Nintendo Wii in November of 2011. It was the last original, mainline Zelda game to be released on a home console prior to the 2017 Switch launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In addition to the new HD port of the game, Nintendo is releasing special Skyward Sword Joy-Cons, which will be available on launch day and are designed to resemble link's sword and shield.
Developed and published by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD goes on sale July 16 for the Nintendo Switch.
