Man of Steel Star Endorses Justice League Fan’s Green Lantern Theory

Actor Christopher Meloni gave some cheeky support to a fan theory linking two of his DC character roles -- Air Force Col. Nathan Hardy of Man of Steel and Hal Jordan of Green Lantern: First Flight.

Twitter user @GeekLawGrad tweeted, "Here [sic] me out: Colonel Hardy survived and he's the new Green Lantern." Meloni, who played Hardy in 2013's Man of Steel, responded "YES, yes he did."

In Man of Steel, Hardy, assigned to United States Northern Command, defended Earth from the invasion by Phantom Zone escapees Faora, Nam-Ek and General Dru-Zod. Hardy repelled the Kryptonians by crashing Kal-El's spaceship into Black Zero, the world-building spacecraft the trio was using to terraform Earth into a new home. Hardy's sacrifice reopened a portal to the Phantom Zone, which drew in Faora and Nam-Ek.

Meloni was the voice of Hal Jordan in the 2009 DC Universe animated movie Green Lantern: First Flight, which told his origin story. News that Zack Snyder's Justice League includes a cameo "that will blow hard-core fans' minds" led to fan speculation that it's Green Lantern. The presence of a Green Lantern in the DCEU was teased in the original 2017 Justice League release. Ryan Reynolds starred in a solo Green Lantern film in 2011, but has said he won't appear in the Justice League remix.

Meloni starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as New York Police Detective Eliot Stabler for 12 seasons. He's also been the voice of Commissioner Gordon in the animated Harley Quinn for DC Universe, now on HBO Max.
