Marvel's Avengers: How Lucky the Pizza Dog Lost an Eye | CBR

Marvel's Avengers is the latest addition in the live-service genre. Since its release, it has been plagued with any bugs and delays to new content. However, there are still quite a few redeeming features, including Easter eggs found in the main game and DLC.

The next DLC features a brand new story and the introduction of the villain Maestro, along with Clint Barton, the first Hawkeye. The game is seemingly influenced by three major storylines from the comics: Future Imperfect (which the update is named after), Old Man Hawkeye and Matt Fraction's and David Aja's Hawkeye run. The game will closely focus on the "My Life As a Weapon" story and introduces readers to Clint's dog, Lucky.

Lucky is an adorable dog that is sure to bring in a ton of new players out of curiosity alone. In the game, his purple bandana is coupled with a very sporty eyepatch. However, the story behind the eyepatch isn't without trauma. In 2012's Hawkeye #1, by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth and Chris Eliopoulos, Lucky almost pays the ultimate price while fighting alongside Clint.

This comics run tells a very grounded story about Clint, who has seen better days, trying to defend an apartment building he owns from the Tracksuit Mafia. It's a tiring job, but he still manages to offer Lucky a slice of pizza before he tries to buy the building from the tracksuits. The deal breaks down, and Clint finds himself in another fight. Lucky, appreciating his kindness, decides to join him in fighting his former owners. This ends with Lucky being hit by a car and suffering massive injuries, which includes losing his eye.

Lucky ultimately survives and remains loyal to both Clint and Kate Bishop even in their hardest times. He probably suffered a lot of abuse before he met Clint. However, his natural kindness won out in the end, and Clint, even in Marvel's Avengers, would do anything to keep him safe. Lucky's inclusion in the game is just one of many great inclusions from the comics and movies.

Lucky has never worn an eyepatch in the comics, so the addition raises some big questions -- and has including ones about the whereabouts of another Marvel character who famously wears an eyepatch. As far as the story is concerned, Nick Fury disappeared sometime after A-Day and has only ever been seen on a video screen in the old S.H.I.E.L.D. vaults. The most recent game trailer suggests Clint has been on the hunt for Fury for some time.

While it isn't confirmed whether or not he was with Fury in the future timeline, Lucky's eyepatch could provide an idea of what happened. One potential theory would suggest that Clint was with Fury at some point, and his eyepatch was the only thing left from his disappearance. Clint could have given Lucky the eyepatch as a memento.

Many potential speculations could stem from Lucky's eyepatch and even Fury's disappearance. However, his inclusion confirms one undeniable fact about the dog: His loyalty runs deeper than most Avengers, and much like Clint, there isn't anything he wouldn't do for those he loves. There will no doubt be some amazing moments with him in the new Marvel's Avengers DLC.
