MCU: How Long It Takes to Watch All the Marvel Television Series

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is undoubtedly one of the biggest franchises on the planet, spawning over 24 films and multiple connected TV shows. While the total runtime of the MCU's Infinity Saga was previously covered, you might be wondering just how long it would take to finish every episode of all the finished shows that are (at least as of this writing) connected to the MCU. For clarity purposes, the X-Men-related shows Legion and The Gifted will not be counted as they are not linked to the MCU continuity.

Marvel Television's first series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is arguably the series most connected to the MCU. The show stars Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they tackle a plethora of superhuman and alien threats following the events of The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The show initially featured tie-ins, cameos, and references to multiple films in the MCU before slowly detaching themselves from the main films and winding up in a whole other timeline (within the same multiverse) altogether.

This was Marvel Television's longest-running TV series, lasting 136 episodes over 7 seasons. The episodes were fairly standard television length at 41 to 45 minutes in length. It would take exactly 5853 minutes, or 97 hours and 33 minutes (4 whole days) to watch the entire series.

Slingshot is a short digital miniseries produced by Marvel Television that spun off from Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. While most of the main cast from the original show returns, the main focus is placed on Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) a.k.a. Slingshot, an Inhuman speedster who is forced to sign the Sokovia Accords, creating a conflict with a personal mission. The series ran for 6 episodes, ranging from 4 to 6 minutes. It would take 28 minutes to view the entire miniseries, or just slightly longer than your typical sitcom episode.

While it is still unknown whether or not the Netflix series will remain a part of MCU canon if the characters are brought back into Marvel Studios, the entire Netflix line was initially tied indirectly to the events of The Avengers. Following the Battle Of New York, or as it's referred to on the show, "The Incident," the once-safe city begins to see an uptick in violent and organized crime, leading to the intervention of several of Marvel's most iconic street-level superheroes and vigilantes.

A total of 6 shows were produced, with Daredevil being the longest in length (3 seasons, 39 episodes, 2,110 minutes) followed by Jessica Jones (3 seasons, 39 episodes, 2,058 minutes) Luke Cage (2 seasons, 26 episodes, 1,463 minutes), The Punisher (2 seasons, 26 episodes, 1379 minutes), Iron Fist (2 seasons, 23 episodes, 1,238 minutes) and the crossover series The Defenders (1 season, 8 episodes, 398 minutes). To watch the entirety of the Netflix Marvel shows, it would take 8,646 minutes, or a whopping 144 hours and 6 minutes (6 full days).

Taking place in 1946 after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter follows Peggy Carter while she works for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, which was later absorbed into S.H.I.E.L.D. Initially, the show was only tied to the MCU through Peggy Carter and Howard Stark, but the cameo by James D'Arcy's Edwin Jarvis in Avengers: Endgame solidifies this show's place in the MCU canon.

The show lasted 2 seasons and spanned 18 episodes before its untimely cancellation. The series, which had its episodes ranged in length from 41 to 43 minutes, has a total runtime of 757 minutes, or 12 hours and 37 minutes.

Inhumans centers around the Inhuman Royal Family led by Black Bolt (Anson Mount). The show has a unique history. It was initially announced as a film for the Phase Three slate before becoming a series. After receiving less than stellar reviews from critics and fans alike, the show was canceled after its first season. While the show was initially considered canon, this has come into doubt with Ms. Marvel possibly being the first inhuman introduced under Marvel Studios.

The show's first and only season featured 8 episodes, ranging from 41 to 43 minutes. The total runtime of Inhumans adds up to 337 minutes, or a very manageable 5 hours and 37 minutes.

Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph star as the iconic teenage superhero couple in this Freeform series. The show revolves around the duo, who receive their powers following an event surrounding the shady Roxxon corporation. After realizing that their powers work better when they are together, the two set off to become crime fighters. While there aren't many references to the greater MCU, the show still remains a part of MCU continuity as of this writing and has even crossed over with Runaways.

Prior to its cancellation, Cloak & Dagger ran for 2 seasons with a total of 20 episodes, each ranging from 40 to 49 minutes in length. The total runtime for the series stands at 836 minutes, or 13 hours and 56 minutes.

Based on the comic series of the same name, the Runaways series that aired on Hulu told the story of six super-powered teenagers who unite against their parents and collectively run a supervillain team known as Pride. While the show is set in the MCU, it is thematically and physically distant, with only minor nods and references to the other films and shows. The show was officially canceled after 3 seasons.

Runaways ended with a total of 33 episodes. The episodes, which ran for approximately 41 to 50 minutes each, accumulates for a total runtime of 1,580 minutes, or 26 hours and 20 minutes.

Helstrom was initially announced as part of a line of standalone programming separate from the larger MCU called Adventure Into Fear from former Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb prior to his departure with the company. The only other show announced for Adventure Into Fear was the since-canceled Ghost Rider series led by Gabriel Luna.

The show was met with mostly negative reviews when it was released on Hulu in October 2020, leading the show to be canceled just a mere two months later. A total of 10 episodes were released in its first and only season, with episode length ranging from 45 to 56 minutes. According to IMDB, the total length of the episodes including credits is 502 minutes, or 8 hours and 22 minutes.

To watch every MCU-related TV show it would take a whopping 18,539 minutes, or 308 hours and 59 minutes. For anyone who is willing to take up the daunting task of watching every single one of these series back to back, it would take over 12 full days. The amount of MCU-related content is vast, especially when combined with the runtime of the films, which would add up to a gargantuan 359 hours of MCU content.
