Kimimaro was a member and former leader of the Sound Four, one of the strongest characters the heroes fought in the original Naruto series. His Kekkei Genkai allowed him to protrude bones as harder than steel from any part of his body with abundance.
This made him a deadly threat and natural killing machine, especially when directed against his master's enemies. As powerful as Kimimaro might be, however, he has certain vulnerabilities that his opponents can exploit. By determining how he would fare against a diverse roster of shinobi, we can accurately gauge the limits of his unusual and grotesque power.
10 COULD BEAT: Zabuza With His Low Durability
Zabuza was a mercenary from the Hidden Mist that commanded an abundance of water-related jutsu. In addition to trapping his opponents in aquatic prisons, he could also obliterate them with gigantic liquid dragons potent enough to flood an entire forest.
However, he was able to withstand the brunt of his own attack even in spite of his human physiology and comparatively low durability. As a result, Kimimaro should find similar success in enduring him before slicing his opponent to ribbons.
9 WOULD LOSE TO: Mu As A Tsuchikage With Particle Style
Lord Mu was the former Tsuchikage of the Stone Village and the wielder of the notoriously powerful particle style. A single beam was deadly enough to slice through literally anything, including surfaces as hard as a Susanoo.
Therefore, as durable as Kimimaro's bones might be, they would not offer adequate protection from the terrifyingly potent abilities at Mu's disposal. Further, his station as a kage evinces much greater experience than his opponent and a natural advantage in combat. Should he fight defensively and force his foe to come to him, Mu's victory would be assured.
8 COULD BEAT: (Part One) Kabuto Who Can't Defend Against A Bone Graveyard
Part One's Kabuto was arguably Orochimaru's only other henchman that could stand a chance against Kimimaro. His chakra scalpels were able to cut through muscle and bone with little effort, proven through his fight against Naruto. Moreover, the man was able to withstand a point-blank Rasengan to the stomach (an ability potent enough to destroy one of Pain's paths instantly).
However, Kimimaro has a significant edge in reach on account of the bones he can produce from his body. In a desperate situation, he could also turn the entire arena into a spiked graveyard, skewering the medical ninja horrifically and delivering several fatal injuries in a single attack.
7 WOULD LOSE TO: Shikamaru Who Would Exploit Kimimaro's Mobility Weakness
Shikamaru's shadow possession jutsu would be a perfect counter to Kimimaro provided that they fought on the same open sward that he did against Gaara. Despite the Sound ninja's vast durability and reflexes (capable of defending against Rock Lee), he struggled to land a successful hit against him.
This speaks to the genkai user's low mobility, a fact that Nara would exploit to his advantage. After completing his paralysis, he would use his shadow strangle in order to knock his foe unconscious or kill him outright.
6 COULD BEAT: Choji Who Wouldn't Be Able To Land An Attack Without Hurting Himself
Choji's super expanded form provides an enormous advantage against much of his opposition. What strength is given to his immense size further increases through the chakra wings manifested on his back.
However, this form does not guarantee durability, as seen in his fight against Jirobo. The man was able to hoist him above his head and deliver brutal punishment. Considering this, should Kimimaro protrude bones from every orifice of his body as Choji mounts his attack, what offense he manages would be just as perilous to himself as it would his target.
5 WOULD LOSE TO: Torune With His Potent Poisions
Torune was the servant of Danzo Shimura and a profoundly gifted ninja. His body was able to secrete poisons that spread through his opponent through a single glancing touch on their skin.
Durable as Kimimaro might be (the first person to survive a full-bodied sand coffin from Gaara), his immune system is less impervious to harm. This was demonstrated through the illness he had suffered during the first act of the Sasuke Retrieval arc--one which forced his comrades to embark on their mission without him.
4 COULD BEAT: Chiyo Whose Puppets Aren't Sturdy Enough
Chiyo was one of the anime's foremost authorities on puppet mastery. Commanding the hollowed bodies of Sasori's former parents, she was able to outflank her grandson and cut him down. Further, her manipulation of Sakura's limbs guaranteed her survival against the rogue Akatsuki member.
However, the weapons her dolls are equipped with do not have poisons and are comparatively brittle to the bones on Kimimaro's body. As a result, they would not be able to belay his attack and prevent him from striking her down. Considering how adept he was in fighting multiple opponents (proven through Naruto's shadow clones), he should manage to avoid or destroy her creations with little effort.
3 WOULD LOSE TO: Tsunade Whose Physical Strength Could Break His Bones
Kimimaro's two greatest assets are through his ability to skewer opponents and defend against attacks (due to his bones' durability). Unfortunately for him, Tsunade's overwhelming physical brawn is enough to circumvent both advantages.
Powerful enough to defeat the Raikage in an arm wrestle and crush a Susanoo, she would be able to smash his spikes and his head along with them without much effort. Though he could skewer her in his bone graveyard, her hundred healings and experience as a Sannin would evince her perseverance from his retaliation.
2 COULD BEAT: Temari Whose Giant Fan Would Be Stopped
Temari's fan may prove a difficult challenge from a distance since it is able to lacerate her opponents and slice through the boughs of trees. However, Kimimaro's natural resilience and bone spike graveyard would force her to take to the air.
Considering that Gaara could not evade him through flying, it follows that his sister would not find any more success. Conversely, her fan is much more vulnerable than his sand cloud - a single gash through it by one of Kimimaro's bones would render her greatest ninja tool inoperable and bring her plummeting to her death.
1 WOULD LOSE TO: The Third Kazekage With His Deadly Iron Sand
The Third Kazekage's "Iron Sand" may not have been maneuverable as Gaara's particles, but it was significantly more deadly. In addition to being able to apply the same force as his successor, he could create a variety of metal shapes nearly impossible to break.
Subsequently, should he attempt a sand coffin against Kimimaro, it is much more likely to kill him outright, rather than significantly injure him as Gaara's did. Even if the man manages to survive, the Kazekage could retract his particles and use them as an impregnable shield.
