In comics, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have taken on interdimensional despots and dealt with dangerous situations that are far more perilous than most of their TV adventures ever were.
With so many varied threats to tackle, it's more than understandable that the Power Rangers have developed a bevy of ways to combat them. But in Mighty Morphin #4, the team's most fearsome nemesis, Lord Zedd, has grown accustomed to the heroes' tactics, and he just crushed their hopes of assembling a fan-favorite dream team between the White and Green Rangers.
Instead of a laid back music festival, the Rangers found themselves in yet another of Lord Zedd's traps, this time leaving the heroes surrounded by the latest iteration of his menacing Putty foot soldiers. In typical Power Rangers fashion, the battle grows quite literally when the Putties merge together to form one towering Putty Prime. This gives the Rangers a chance to call in their own Zords, the Green Ranger even recovering enough to leap back into action with the Dragonzord. The fight still looks to be an uphill one, but the Rangers at least have a fighting chance once more. At least, they did until Lord Zedd shows off just exactly how strong he has become in horrific fashion.
The oversized Putty is quick to dispatch the Megazord, leaving the Rangers inside swarmed by a small army of Chaos Putties crawling across its facade. From inside the White Tigerzord, Tommy puts up the best fight he can even if he's still outmatched one on one against the monster.
Thankfully, the Green Ranger is there on the sidelines to pilot the Dragonzord into combat. Grace Sterling, back at Promethea, communicates with Tommy for the mysterious Ranger. She tells him that the Dragonzord has undergone some recent modifications, offering him a chance at what would be a groundbreaking team-up. The White Tigerzord and Dragonzord have both seen combining with other Zords, but never with one another, and fans have finally been given the chance to see just what awe-inspiring results would come of it. Green Chaos Energy crackles around both Zords as they prepare to merge, all while Zedd watches on from a rooftop nearby. Zedd has been waiting for just the right moment to show the Rangers how meek they really are, and this is it.
As the two Zords come into contact with one another, Zedd unleashes a blast of Green Chaos Energy from his staff with explosive results. Zedd and the Green Ranger watch from their respective rooftops in both terror and pride as both of the giant robots crash to the ground. There is no time left to recover, there is no hope of fighting back from where they are, and so the Power Rangers are once more forced to retreat back to the Command Center in the face of such a devastating defeat.
As bad as things are, they can only get worse from here, as the Rangers are now cut off entirely from their most powerful weapons at a time when they needed them more than ever.
