Superman & Lois' Morgan Edge Echoes Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos

Morgan Edge is back in business. The CW's upcoming Superman & Lois series will reintroduce the character to the Arrowverse, with Adam Rayner playing a new post-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" version of him. During the show's TCA panel, Rayner addressed his real-world inspirations for the role and how Egde's tactics are threats masquerading as opportunities.

Asked what real-life moguls influenced his performance, Rayner said, "Well, one has a selection of moguls to choose from. No one in particular, but obviously you're aware of the Elon Musks and the Jeff Bezos and people that use the media and also represent both opportunity and threat to a small-town America. They would claim they're bringing opportunity, but of course, it could be considered exploitative, when you see on the ground what that opportunity actually looks like."

Created by Jack Kirby in 1970, Morgan Edge first appeared in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #133 and started out as a goodnatured media mogul who bought The Daily Planet. Following Crisis on Infinite Earths, however, he evolved into a villain.

Previously, Edge was portrayed by Adrian Pasdar in the Arrowverse, where he served as one of the antagonists in Supergirl Season 3. There, he was a shady businessman who sought to gentrify National City in the wake of Season 2's Daxamite invasion. Prior to Supergirl, Morgan Edge was a recurring villain on Smallville, where he was depicted as a Metropolis crime lord played by both Rutger Hauer and Patrick Bergin. In Superman & Lois, he will act as a foil for Lois as she uncovers his plans for Smallville.
