The heroes of Marvel are some of the greatest ever created, using their powers and skills to save the universe from the terrible threats that bedevil it, even if sometimes they're more lucky than good. Many of them had lives before they became superheroes and kept those jobs, doing double duty.
However, some heroes should probably re-think that state of affairs. Whether it be because they aren't very good at their job or having a job and being a superhero have hurt other aspects of their lives, it doesn't always mix very well for them.
10 Black Bolt Is A Great King But Didn't Set A Good Example For His Replacements
It's hard to argue with Black Bolt's leadership skills- he's kept the Inhumans together and led them through some very trying times and did it without speaking, which is a pretty impressive feat. However, a truly great monarch is able to pass on his skills and abilities to those who come after him, while also reigning in a just and humane way.
This is where Black Bolt failed completely. His people's reaction to the crisis started by the Terrigen Mist clouds showed this. Black Bolt wasn't in command then, but one would think he'd have taught Medusa and his people better than to be genocidal against an entire race.
9 Wasp Isn't Nearly As Good A Fashion Designer As She Likes To Think
Janet Van Dyne is one of the wealthier members of the Avengers and this wealth allowed her to indulge her love of fashion. She became a fashion designer and as a superhero would often change her costume to something new she designed. However, one just needs to take a look at some of those costumes to see that maybe she wasn't great at her job.
Some of Wasp's costumes are pretty bad and give a very bad accounting of her skills. In fact, one gets the impression that it's a good thing the independently wealthy Wasp doesn't need to sell too much of the fashions she designs, because if she did, she wouldn't be eating very much.
8 The Beast Is A Terrible Evolutionary Biologist Who Bites Off More Than He Can Chew
The Beast's legacy as an X-Man is quite checkered; sometimes he's one of the team's most useful members and other times not so much. As the team's foremost evolutionary biologist, he finds himself tackling some pretty big problems but has never actually solved any of them.
From the Legacy Virus to the mutant de-powering to the Terrigen Mist cloud's effect on mutants, Beast has never been able to solve any problems he sets out to, at least not on his own. That says a lot about his skills as a scientist and that maybe he should shoot for less ambitious things.
7 Wonder Man Could Only Play Characters Who Wore Sunglasses All The Time Or Had Glowing Pink Eyes
Wonder Man can't really catch a break in life. He's mostly either enmeshed in a love triangle with Scarlet Witch and the Vision or dead. In the sparse time when he's not involved in those things, he makes his money as an actor or stunt performer, which doesn't make any sense. His ionic energy-based powers give him glowing eyes, which should pigeonhole him in his roles.
Unless the character always wears sunglasses, how does that work? Do people just write roles for Wonder Man because he's an Avenger? Wonder Man's working as an actor makes extra work for everyone involved as they have to bend over backward to make the roles work for him rather than him working for the roles.
6 Captain America Wasn't A Great Soldier
Captain America has taken down some dangerous foes and has been fighting evil since the days of World War II. Captain America's time as a soldier in WWII was his claim to fame but was he that good at it? Sure, he was great for PR and fighting Nazi supersoldiers but it was revealed that Bucky did a lot of the heavy lifting, sneaking in and softening up targets.
While his time as a soldier would end in his hibernation, he probably thought he was doing a great job up until that point because everyone made him look good. However, it's just weird that he never sat back and thought just how easy the whole thing was for him and re-thought his time as a soldier.
5 Being A Defense Attorney Seems Like A Conflict Of Interests For Daredevil
Daredevil is one of the best defense attorneys in New York City, which just seems kind of weird for someone who beats up criminals at night. While most of his targets probably can't afford him, there are some who could and that would make the whole thing rather awkward. While he has worked as a state attorney in recent years, he made most of his money as a defense attorney.
While the argument can be made that he tries to only represent innocent people, that wouldn't exactly be super profitable. Daredevil has probably helped a lot of people get off that didn't deserve it just to keep the lights on.
4 Mr. Fantastic Needs To Cool It With The Science
Mr, Fantastic is one of the smartest men on the planet and his family has suffered for it. From the way he ignored his wife Sue for years to his sort of distant relationship with Franklin to the fact that Doctor Doom is closer to his daughter than he is, Mr. Fantastic should probably take a time out from all of the science for a while.
It would be different if he was inventing great things all the time but he isn't. He's mostly just opening portals to terrible places and things of that nature. He should definitely take some time off and focus on his family a bit more.
3 Bruce Banner Should Have Done More Testing
The Hulk has kind of abandoned his job as a physicist but he probably should have done that before he became the Hulk. The idea behind the gamma bomb- a weapon that would destroy buildings but not people- was a good one in theory, but suffered from a lack of testing.
Instead of small proof of concept experiments, going right to a full prototype, regardless of government pressure, was a bad decision on Banner's part and led to a lot of bad things for the world, as gamma technology has created loads of destructive monsters, including the Hulk himself.
2 Spider-Man Picks Terrible Career Paths Constantly
Spider-Man is known for his money problems and when one looks at his jobs and his own skills, it raises the question- what exactly was he thinking? Sure, freelance photography is quick money but Spider-Man invented web fluid and web-shooters as a teenager. With skills like that, he should have been trying to invent things to make a buck.
Spider-Man rarely if ever tried to use his talents to make money and that's just kind of weird. He's very intelligent yet the only time he capitalized on it, he wasn't even in control of himself- Doc Ock was. it's like Spider-Man likes failing at everything.
1 Iron Man Should Have Never Been Allowed To Run His Own Businesses
Iron Man is a great inventor. There's no denying that- he's created a lot of things over the years that have made the world a better place. However, like many creative people, he shouldn't have been allowed to run his own business. Every time he has, bad things have happened.
Either someone came and took it over, forcing him to fight against his own creations or have to start from scratch with all of his money gone, or it was taken from him by the government. Iron Man should never be allowed to run his own business; he can come up with stuff but should never be in charge of everything.
