10 Wishes Izuku Midoriya Would Make On The Dragon Balls | CBR

Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia are two of the most popular anime series in more recent years, and it’s hard to not see the influence of the former within the latter. Each year brings with it a wealth of new shonen anime series, and there are definitely plenty of programs that fade into obscurity and can’t find the audience and level of enthusiasm that’s present for Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia.

It’s interesting to consider some of the elements from one of these shonen series bleeding into the other and what a heroic character like Izuku Midoriya might do with Dragon Ball’s titular orbs.

10 To Give Quirks To The Entire Human Race

One major theme that runs through My Hero Academia is that everyone is special, and even those without Quirks can still make a difference in the world. Izuku Midoriya has personally felt the pains of being Quirkless, only to later get the honor to control several Quirks. It’s easy to see Midoriya want to minimize the pain in children who were like him, and a wish to give the whole world Quirks wouldn’t break the status quo but would allow everyone to feel important.

9 To Be Able To Use One For All At 100% Without Consequence

There is such a diverse range of Quirks in My Hero Academia, and some of them are immediately powerful, while others are works in progress. Midoriya’s One For All Quirk can potentially be one of the strongest, but he’s only able to use fractions of its full potential due to the damage that it wreaks on his body. A simple wish that allows Midoriya’s body to completely withstand his Quirk would be a gamechanger for him, but also an advantage that wouldn’t cause him to slack off and neglect training.

8 To Erase Eri’s Mind Over Her Harmful Childhood

It’s truly impressive how each season of My Hero Academia becomes progressively more mature, and season four tackles some especially disturbing subject matter in regards to Eri, a young girl who is given a life of abuse that takes advantage of her Quirk.

Eri’s exodus from Kai Chisaki’s destructive guardianship is the main driving force behind the season, yet Eri’s recovery and journey toward normalcy are still ongoing. Midoriya hates to see this innocent girl feel such pain, and a wish to erase this trauma feels like something that Deku would consider.

7 To Bring Sir Nighteye Back To Life

It’s standard for shonen and superhero narratives to feature a large number of deaths since the heroes and villains all wield such unbelievable powers. My Hero Academia is full of conflict, but it’s managed to have a surprisingly small amount of fatalities. Sir Nighteye is one of the few exceptions, and his passing is a major catalyst in season four that seriously changes Mirio Togata, as well as Midoriya. One of the Dragon Balls’ most useful functions is that it can revive the dead, and Nighteye is the perfect candidate.

6 To Give Gran Torino His Youth Back

My Hero Academia effectively balances the amount of training and real-world combat that its heroes receive. Midoriya is able to improve his skills by becoming a student to several prestigious professional heroes, but his time with Gran Torino is especially important. Gran Torino was a mentor for All Might and has a storied reputation. He’s still very powerful, but he’s admittedly slowed down by his old age. A frequent wish that villains resort to in Dragon Ball is to have their youth restored, and this would be a smart way for Midoriya to show his gratitude towards Gran Torino.

5 To Have The Ability To Share One For All With Others

An important part of My Hero Academia is that All Might considers Midoriya to be his worthy successor to take over his One For All Quirk. Midoriya rises to the occasion and proves why All Might made the right decision. However, Midoriya has still received grief over this, and there are individuals who have shown a capacity to be a suitable One For All bearer, like Togata and even Bakugo.

Midoriya hates to disappoint people, and in a perfect world, he’d find a way to share this privileged power with those around him so they can all experience this Quirk.

4 To Make All Might Healthy

Another major factor in My Hero Academia is that Midoriya’s mentor and idol, All Might, is actually quite sick and has limited time left. All Might’s ailing condition is part of the reason he bequeaths his Quirk to Midoriya, but it turns each of All Might’s muscular transformations into a liability. Midoriya hates to see All Might in pain as he struggles over choosing heroics over his own health. Natural ailments can be tricky for the Dragon Balls, but the right wish could be used to keep All Might around. Midoriya could even wish for All Might to be immortal.

3 To Limit Anyone From Having More Than One Quirk

Midoriya initially considers himself blessed enough to have one Quirk, but he and a few select others actually gain several Quirks throughout the course of the series. However, this is mostly something that villains like All For One, Nine, Shigaraki, and Overhaul abuse and why they’re so dangerous. A wish to make villains no longer exist or for their Quirks to become dampened doesn’t seem fair, but Midoriya could retaliate with a Quirk restriction. This would limit his own powers too, but he’d still be left with his most valuable Quirk.

2 To Make It Impossible To Create Artificial Villains Like Nomu

My Hero Academia has no shortage of villains, but the heroes have to deal with extra and unnecessary frustrations when superpowered Nomus are created through mad science. These Nomu are a serious problem and one of the League of Villains’ main resources. It’d be unreasonable to wish that the League of Villains itself ceases to exist, but a wish to stop biological weapons that pervert gene science for the purpose of tainting heroics and villainy is well within Shenron’s capabilities. Shenron has had wishes that involve androids and artificial intelligence, and this request isn’t very different.

1 To Have His Dad Back

My Hero Academia charts Midoriya’s slow growth into a professional hero and the anime begins to feature more time with him at U.A. High and less in his regular life. Glimpses of Midoriya’s family are shown, and he’s very close with his mother. Midoriya’s father works abroad and is rarely home with his family. This has left a rather lonely existence for Midoriya’s mother, especially after he leaves for U.A. High. A wish that makes Midoriya’s dad a permanent fixture could be part of the happy ending that he’s been chasing after.
