The third installation to the Bravely series, Bravely Default II features a new story and cast of characters. Players are challenged to fight for survival in awesome adventures of epic proportions with a customized team of heroes. With turn-based combat, players will need to have a strategy down if they want to get far.
Although Bravely Default II is fun, it is no breeze in the park. After receiving the Bravely Default II demo, many critics agreed that the game is more difficult than expected of the franchise. Here are some tips, tricks, and strategies to help players who are new to the game or just struggling with some of the fights.
JP stands for Job Points, and their importance in the game cannot be overstated. You'll need to reach key Job levels to obtain some of the game's most useful abilities, but mixing and matching Jobs can also be a key to victory. These jobs act like the classic role or class systems in RPGs with the added bonus of being able to swap jobs for a character at any time.
Players will want to level up their JP fast to activate two specific passive abilities and speed up JP growth. Under the Freelancer job, you'll unlock the skill JP Up at Job Level 9. This skill increases JP gained by a small amount; however, you can use this in tandem with the skill JP Up And Up, which is unlocked at Freelancer level 12. With both skills activated on a single character, the JP increase is much more substantial and reaching the level 12 cap of different jobs becomes very easy.
Giving characters job occupations affects things like their class and abilities. It is also viable to switch a character's jobs and give them different abilities. However, these abilities can only be used when the characters are actively "working" those jobs. That's where categorizing them into Main and Sub comes in handy.
If you want to level up the JP of a particular job, say something that would give you a good offensive ability, but don't want to lose all the abilities of a job that you've already maxed out, then set the maxed out job as your Sub Job. This allows the character to dedicate their JP increase to the Main Job while also keeping the Sub Job's abilities and spells.
There are two kinds of enemies that player parties will encounter: those who run towards the player and those who run away. While it may seem less tedious to let these enemies come up to a player's party, it's actually better for players to let them run off first or to skirt the encounter altogether. After a short while, these enemies will stop running, and players can position themselves behind their enemies before starting combat.
This is worth the extra effort because it unlocks two pre-combat buffs for the player's party: Allied Advantage and Your Party's Feeling Brave. While the first ability is easy enough to achieve, Your Party's Feeling Brave almost requires this tactic, especially for the enemies that run towards the player's party. This will help players start first in the turn-based combat and start with one extra Brave point. It's not a lot, but they can make huge differences when farming enemies.
Accessories are handy for boosting a character's stats, whether it's for attacks or defense. Over the course of the game, players will wind up gathering tons of accessories - each with a bunch of useful stat-boosting capabilities. Accessories can be swapped from character to character whenever and they can always be changed.
You'll want these useful knick-knacks to gain the cutting edge advantage in a boss fight. Many of these accessories can act as powerful countermeasures for certain bosses, so make sure to be prepared and actively sort through which accessory to equip to which character. The accessories players should definitely get their hands on are the ones that provide immunity to certain status effects like Sleep or Blindness. These can be purchased at the shopkeeper.
This one may seem silly, but you should always swing your swords at patches of grass you come across. Although the game tells players this in the beginning, it is often overlooked as an efficient or methodical tactic.
Grass tends to hide tons of free loot in the game, and who can argue with free gear? Armor, weapons, money and much more can all be found within blades of grass, so trim every hedge in every corner, especially in new unexplored areas. You never know when you'll find something useful.
