DC announced it's hosting its second Wonder Woman 5 and 10K Virtual Run as part of its "Believe in Wonder" campaign -- commemorating 80 years of Wonder Woman.
Launched on International Women's Day 2021, DC's "Believe in Wonder" campaign "illuminates the Super-Hero's timeless and relevant message of hope and empowerment with original content, commemorative comics, books, fashion collectibles" and more. On Oct. 21, DC's campaign will culminate with a global celebration for Wonder Woman Day.
One of the biggest events happening during the campaign will be the DC Wonder Woman Virtual Run 5K/10K from Rugged Races, which is being held in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Registration for both individuals and families will begin in July, with more information available now at DCWonderWomanRun.com.
DC and WarnerMedia initially launched its Wonder Woman Run Series in 2018, with the aim to "empower the hero in all." After a series of successful race events, the DC took the event virtual in 2020, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The "Believe in Wonder" celebration will also see the release of various Wonder Woman-related content, including the Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Spectacular -- a gala collection similar to previous oversized anthologies released by DC. The anthology will include Wonder Woman's debut appearance in All-Star Comics #8, her first headliner with Sensation Comics #1 and 1942's Wonder Woman #1.
WarnerMedia also announced plans to produce a series of videos spotlighting 80 "Women of Wonder." Among the powerful figures featured will be well-known network journalists and talent, cultural figures, experts, influencers and celebrities who are advancing representation in their fields and providing young women with reasons to "Believe in Wonder" every day.
News of the second DC Wonder Woman Virtual Run arrived days after actress Connie Nielsen -- who portrays the Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons in the DC Extended Universe -- confirmed that the planned Wonder Woman spinoff will center on the Amazons of Themiscyra. "Well, I can tell you that it's not just after what happens in Wonder Woman," Nielsen stated. "There's also some other stuff in there, which is related to a prior time as well. There is a lot of different sort of things that you can see where the story is a little bit origin minded, but there are also other times involved."
The Amazon spinoff will also reportedly serve as a lead-in to Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3.
