WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the DuckTales three-part series finale -- "The Last Adventure!" -- which aired on Disney XD and DisneyNOW on Mar. 15
DuckTales has in large parts focused on ideas of found family, especially considering the likes of Webby and her connection to Scrooge, Donald, Della and the triplets. But as it turns out, her efforts to become a part of the family actually had a secretly added element that no one was fully aware of, until the events of the series finale.
"The Last Adventure!" reveals that Webby has actually been a secret McDuck all along, and is --thanks to the cloning efforts of F.O.W.L. -- the daughter of Scrooge McDuck.
Since the earliest episodes of DuckTales, Webby has been obsessed with the history of Scrooge McDuck and the legacy of his long-running adventuring family. The idea of family was especially important for Webby, who grew up without her parents and in the care of her grandmother, Mrs. Beakley. She would eventually grow to be a beloved member of the family unit, but that still didn't change the fact that her own family history was a mystery. However, everything comes to the forefront in "The Last Adventure!," when Scrooge and his allies raid a F.O.W.L. base and discover two clones of Webby -- May and June. Neither of the women seem to be aware of their origins, and they bring this up to Webby, who also reveals she never actually knew her birth parents.
Learning that Mrs. Beakley has been hiding something from her regarding this, Webby ends up avoiding capture by the two clones and impersonates one of them to break into F.O.W.L.'s base of operations in the Library of Alexandria. But while there, she discovers that Mrs. Beakley was never actually her grandmother. Instead, she discovered an infant Webby during a raid against F.O.W.L. years earlier -- choosing to rescue the child over completing her mission, which prompted Beakley to retire from spy-work and take a job as Scrooge's housekeeper, all as a means to keep herself and Webby hidden and away from danger. In reality, Webby is also a clone that was created by F.O.W.L. from the DNA of Scrooge McDuck, effectively making her his daughter.
This is a major moment for not just Webby and the McDuck family, but also for F.O.W.L., with Director Buzzard revealing the intention was to create a "direct descendant" of Scrooge, all so Buzzard could gain access to the lost Papyrus of Binding and use it to try and force Scrooge to never adventure again. It also cements Webby's place with the Duck family, beyond the emotional bonds she formed with the cast over the course of three seasons. It nominally makes her a cousin to Donald and Della by blood and makes her a direct relative to Huey, Dewey and Louie. However, while this revelation initially shocks Webby, it doesn't change how she feels about her loved ones.
It also doesn't change how the family sees her, either. The triplets quickly adapt to the information, while Scrooge tearfully embraces her after the threat of Director Buzzard is dealt with. Webby and Scrooge even share a massive hug with Mrs. Beakley confirming that Webby still very much sees her "grandmother" as her chief maternal figure. If anything, this just gives Webby a chance to become Scrooge's true heir in terms of adventuring, which had been quietly teased across the series as Webby's ultimate dream. Now, with the series ending on a high note and the heroes set to embark on plenty of other colorful and exciting adventures, she can proudly wear the McDuck name as the latest member of the impressive adventuring family.
Based on the 1987 series of the same name, DuckTales stars the voices of David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci, Beck Bennett, Toks Olagundoye, Tony Anselmo and Paget Brewster. The three-part series finale, "The Last Adventure!," airs Mar. 15 on Disney XD and DisneyNOW.
