The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will explore more than Captain America's legacy. According to series star Sebastian Stan, it will tackle Bucky's as well. During his search for identity, Bucky will also investigate his own Marvel Cinematic Universe legacy and the mark he wants to leave behind on the world.
Asked if he felt a sense of responsibility about leading a new generation of heroes, Stan said, "Exploring that question that you just asked is very much built into the arc of both of these characters, where they are at the top of the show, and actually answering that and exploring that question is very much their journey throughout the show. You know, 'Who am I now? What do I have to contribute?' I mean, that guy did this and this, and so what is gonna be my legacy? If I even want that! So there's all these pieces to it that are interesting, rather than just coming out of the gate and saying, 'I got all the answers.'"
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier picks up after Avengers: Endgame, which sent Earth's Mightiest Heroes on a time-traveling mission to save the universe. They were successful in reversing Thanos' snap, bringing back half of all life, but the ramifications have shaken the very foundations of society. This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have returned to, leaving them to navigate a world rife with all-new conflicts and tension. Amid all that, they will also grapple with Captain America's legacy, their ties to it and the enemies who threaten to tear it all down.
Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.
