Game of Thrones' Ellaria Sand Joins Obi-Wan Series in Secret Role

Game of Thrones' star Indira Varma joined Disney+'s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

No character details have been revealed regarding Varma's debut in the Star Wars Universe. However, Star Wars fans speculated that secrecy could mean she's playing Sith assassin and longtime Obi-Wan foe, Asajj Ventress. Others believe the role will be Satine Kryze, the Mandalorian Duchess that Kenobi had feelings for but died in The Clone Wars.

Both roles would fit Varma, known for her regal attitude in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, where she portrayed the cutthroat Ellaria Sand of Dorne. She impressed fans as an enemy of Queen Cersei and the mother of four of Oberyn Martell's daughters, the "Sand Snakes," as she conspired to bring down the Lannisters by killing their children.

Varma was recently seen in HBO's RomeCarnival Row and ABC's For Life, which wrapped its second season last week.

Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as the Jedi legend, recently confirming that the series, which will be directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian), will begin its production in the spring. Hayden Christensen will reprise his prequel trilogy role as Darth Vader. The upcoming television series will be set between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope.

McGregor previously revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be one season, stating, "As I understand, it's a standalone season." The actor added, "We'll see. Who knows?"

Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow the titular character's exile on Tatooine watching over Luke Skywalker in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. McGregor, who played the iconic Jedi across all three entries in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, will be joined by his former prequel co-star Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, though the manner in which Christensen will appear remains unknown. Likewise, despite not being officially cast, actor Liam Neeson, who played Obi-Wan's mentor Qui-Gon Jin in The Phantom Menace, has expressed interest in cameoing on the show in some form.

Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi is in development and stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
