Godzilla vs. Kong: The Titans Stare Down & Throw Down in a Pair of New Posters

As Godzilla vs. Kong prepares to provide fans with the long-awaited clash, further hype was generated by an intense staredown and throwdown in pair of new posters.

The two international posters for the film show the monsters confronting each other against backdrops of contrasting scenery. While the first displays a semi-aquatic battle against an orange, lightning-infested sky, the second takes place in the middle of a metropolis. These continue the recurring themes of warm vs. blue colors displayed in other marketing materials, perhaps referencing the two monsters' conflicting blood. The scale of the monsters is also on full display in these posters, especially as they dwarf the various man-operated vessels alongside them.

A notable aspect of the first poster is the direction of the military interference in the duel. While the aircraft seems to be aimless, flying in multiple directions, the ship seems more directly involved. Fighting against the waves caused by the monsters' battle, the missiles being launched seem to have a left-leaning trajectory. This would align with the implications in the trailers, in which Monarch captures Kong to fight against Godzilla. As such, it would make sense that they are intruding on the fight to assist Kong. Additionally, the helicopter flying alongside the gorilla's torso seems to be similarly aiming its shots towards the radioactive reptile.

The staredown in the second poster is equally intense despite the lack of direct conflict. Their scale is even more apparent as they tower of the city, and those contrasting colors appear once more in the sky. The poster also presents a minimal military presence and an implication that the battle has yet to begin.

The first poster ties in with a scene often shown in the trailers and promos. The two monsters have been shown duking it out at sea via an aircraft carrier. According to recent reports, this scene is set to host an intense 18-minute-long fight scene.

While the posters support both characters equally, it has been confirmed by the film's director that a definitive winner will emerge from the conflict.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
