Jeffrey Dean Morgan Gets Supernatural in Trailer for Sam Raimi's Unholy

Sony Pictures released the first trailer for The Unholy, a new horror film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The film is produced by Sam Raimi and written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Based on the 1983 novel Shrine by the late James Herbert, The Unholy follows Alice (Cricket Brown), "a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister."

This isn't Morgan's first brush with paranormal phenomena. Fans will remember him as John Winchester, the father of Sam and Dean on Supernatural, and as Neegan, the bat-wielding tyrant from The Walking Dead. Spiliotopoulos makes his feature directorial debut with The Unholy and previously worked as a screenwriter for films like HerculesHuntsman: The Winter's War, and 2017's Beauty and the Beast.

Written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos and produced by Sam Raimi, The Unholy stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Cricket Brown, Cary Elwes, Katie Aselton, Christine Adams, William Sadler, Marina Mazepa and Bates Wilder. It will be released in theaters on April 2.
