A new image from Jupiter's Legacy showcases one of the series' main heroes in action.
The image features Sheldon Sampson (Josh Duhamel) — aka the Utopian — in battle with his nemesis Blackstar (Tyler Mane). Utopian is shown shooting heat vision similar to Superman's directly into Blackstar's face. From the look of things, it seems that Jupiter's Legacy will have the same level of violence that its source material did.
"It's a 50-year story self-contained inside one franchise," series co-creator Mark Millar told Empire. "It's got a cast of 50 or 60 super-characters. The story starts in 1929 and runs until the end of time. It runs through all time and space and explains the mystery of human existence, all tied into a superhero story." Millar also confirmed that Netflix has not pushed back on his more ambitious set pieces for Jupiter's Legacy, and went on to describe it at "part-2001, part-Avengers, part-Godfather II."
The original Jupiter's Legacy comic series tells the stories of three generations of superheroes and the adventures they partook in over the decades. The Netflix series is the first in a list of planned adaptations of Millarworld properties, as Netflix acquired the rights to the Millarworld library in 2017.
Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy stars Josh Duhamel as Utopian, Ben Daniels as Brain-Wave, Leslie Bibb as Lady Liberty, Elena Kampouris as Chloe Sampson, Andrew Horton as Brandon Sampson, Mike Wade as The Flare, Anna Akana as Raikou and Matt Lanter as Skyfox. The series premieres May 7 on Netflix.
