MCU: 10 Ways Doctor Doom Can Be Introduced In Phase 4 | CBR

The MCU has been the biggest draw in movie theaters since 2008. That's only become more true as Disney has slowly acquired more and more of Marvel's film rights from other companies, such as Fox. This has led to increasing speculation as to when certain Marvel comics characters will make their MCU debut. And a big name on that list is a man regarded by many as Marvel's greatest villain of all time.

Doctor Doom is a super genius with a powerful suit of armor and some incredible skill in black magic. On top of that, he is the ruler of his own country and has an army of robots at his back. At some point, he will arrive in the MCU and there are a lot of ways that could happen.

10 As The Villain In The MCU's Fantastic Four Movie

The history of the Fantastic Four on the big screen hasn't exactly been auspicious. The first two attempts starred Jessica Alba and Chris Evans and weren't particularly well-received by most Marvel fans (though they have their defenders). Still, against all odds, those two movies were still infinitely better than 2015's horrific Fant4tastic, which wasn't well received by anybody.

Now that the film rights have returned to Marvel and Disney, a new Fantastic Four movie is slated to be part of the MCU Phase 4. The most straightforward way to introduce Doctor Doom to the MCU would be in this movie, though it would be a waste of a great villain to wait that long.

9 Showing Up In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

After the incredible success and popularity of WandaVision, fans are amped up for the MCU's next release on Disney+. That would be The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which will follow the adventures of the two titular characters in what looks like a pseudo buddy cop adventure.

This could be the perfect opportunity to, at the very least, start laying the foundations of Doctor Doom's entry into the MCU. While he might not make a full on appearance, references to him and Latveria would fit in perfectly.

8 Facing Off Against Wakanda in Black Panther II

After the death of the incomparable Chadwick Boseman, the future of the Black Panther in the MCU was called into question. Marvel has committed to including Black Panther II in Phase 4 but without recasting T'Challa or using CGI to keep Boseman in the film. That's definitively the right call.

However the story of the next movie works out, it could be a good time to bring Doctor Doom into the mix. There has always been enmity between the nations of Wakanda and Latveria. With T'Challa gone, Doom would certainly be inclined to try to make a power grab for Wakanda's Vibranium cache.

7 Taking A Shot At Hawkeye

Another MCU series on its way to Disney+ in 2021 is Hawkeye. As the title would suggest, it focuses on the solo adventures of the Avengers' resident archer and consistent third-wheel. This time around, Kate Bishop is also in the mix and shooting arrows of her own.

While the full plot of the series has yet to be fully described, it would be interesting to see Hawkeye run afoul of Doctor Doom at some point. He is easily the Avenger least equipped to take Doom on and survive, so how that plays out could be entertaining.

6 Getting In Thor's Business

Taika Waititi turned the MCU on its head with Thor: Ragnarok. It was by far the best of all the Thor films as it presented a more humorous and relatable version of Marvel's resident Thunder God.

With Waititi's next MCU film, Thor: Love and Thunder, on the way in 2022, it could be the time to bring Doctor Doom into the mix. Fans already know that he won't be the main villain of the movie but he could play a enough of a part in it to bring him into the MCU.

5 Making It Personal With Ant-Man Like He Did In The Comics

Another entry in Phase 4 will bring Ant-Man and the Wasp back to movie theatres in a third "solo" entry. But there is a brutal history in the comics between Doctor Doom and Scott Lang that may make its way to the big screen.

In the pages of Marvel Comics, Scott's daughter Cassie also goes by the hero name Stature. Doctor Doom was responsible for her death, sending Scott on a mission of revenge against him. This exact story might not be used but a version of it may pop up once all the players are there.

4 Doctor Strange & Scarlet Witch Needing To Team Up Against His Powerful Dark Arts

People tend to focus on the scientific and political sides of Doctor Doom's character. His armor and his army of robots are formidable to say the least. And he does rule an entire country. But his proficiency in the dark mystical arts often gets overlooked.

After WandaVision, the mystical side of the MCU has been beefed up significantly leading into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with the addition of Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness. Doctor Doom could also be on is way, either to help Doctor Strange or hinder him.

3 Appearing In Loki's Series & Driving Him Nuts

Before any other mystical player popped up in the MCU, there was Loki. Thor's adoptive brother is a powerful sorcerer, even without the assistance of an Infinity Stone. And he even has his own show coming to Disney+ this spring.

Loki and Doctor Doom have an odd relationship. Both of them cross back and forth between being heroes and villains depending on what suits their needs at the moment. They're also enemies as often as they are allies. Whatever is going on in Loki, it would be great if Doctor Doom is included in it.

2 As A Major Player In Armor Wars

While few details have been made available at this point, another MCU Disney+ series on the way is Armor Wars. This one will feature James Rhodes, aka War Machine, dealing with the ramifications of Tony Stark's technology falling into the wrong hands.

Those wrong hands could easily belong to Doctor Doom. The rivalry between Iron Man and Doctor Doom has continued for decades. While Stark might be gone from the MCU for the moment, Rhodes could certainly sub in for him when it comes to dealing with Doom.

1 Getting His Own Disney+ Series

There is a strong contingent of comic book fans who believe that Doctor Doom is the greatest villain of all time, and that certainly might be the case. As such, giving him his own MCU series on Disney+ might be the best way to show him off to new fans.

Victor Von Doom's backstory and subsequent rise to power is intricate and engaging, offering a lot of great material for a full series. Watching him become Doctor Doom has the potential to be one of the MCU's best stories, and it would be a nice change of pace to see a villain get the full-on, sprawling MCU origin story treatment for a change.
