Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto series revolves around the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young boy from Konohagakure who aims to become the Hokage of the village. Naruto's journey to his dream sees him fight against some of the most powerful villains. In doing so, he saves the day on countless occasions, which is expected of the main character of the story.
However, there have been times when people other than Naruto stepped up and saved the day in the most unpredictable fashion. In doing so, they made their characters better in the eyes of the fans with some even reaching legendary status.
10 Rock Lee Saved Sakura From The Sound Ninja In The Chunin Exams
Rock Lee is one of the most hardworking ninja in the world of Naruto, though he didn't make the best first impression on Naruto, Sasuke, or his crush, Sakura. Lee later redeemed himself with a remarkable save when Sakura was fighting against Sound ninja in the Forest of Death. In doing so, Lee not only held the enemies off for a little bit to protect Sakura but also helped Naruto and Sasuke, who were both passed out at the time.
9 Kakashi Hatake Stopped Sasuke & Naruto From Hurting Sakura Haruno
Kakashi Hatake was the leader of Team 7 in Naruto, and as expected of the team leader, his most important job was to protect the shinobi under him from any incoming threat. Surprisingly, two of his own students, Naruto and Sasuke, were at each other's throats on various occasions. In one instance where they challenged one another, they could've even killed each other along with Sakura, who ran toward the danger in a desperate plea to stop the fighting.
Thankfully, Kakashi stepped in right in the nick of time and redirected their attacks away from each other and Sakura, preventing all of them from any harm.
8 Jiraiya Saved Naruto & Sasuke From The Akatsuki Members
Itachi and Kisame were tasked with the capture of the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, Naruto Uzumaki, back in the first part of Naruto. After making quick work of Sasuke, Naruto was almost in their grasp when Jiraiya made his big entrance.
Up against two Akatsuki members, Jiraiya proved to be strong enough to make the two consider retreat as their best option and saved the day in the process.
7 Gaara Saved Rock Lee From Kimimaro Of The Hidden Sound Village
Gaara and Rock Lee fought against each other in the Chunin Exams where the latter ended up losing the fight and was left in critical condition. After successfully recovering, Lee went on the Sasuke retrieval mission and fought against Kimimaro who, sadly, was at a higher level than him.
Just when Lee appeared to have lost the battle, Gaara showed up and fought on his behalf and defeated Kimimaro instead.
6 Chiyo Gave Up Her Own Life To Revive Gaara After He Died
Chiyo was an elder of Sunagakure and a powerful ninja back in her days. In the fight against the Akatsuki and the retrieval of the Kazekage, she played a huge role along with the Konohagakure shinobi.
Although Gaara's body was rescued, he had already died as the Tailed Beast had been extracted from his body. To save him, Chiyo surprisingly gave her life force and had it transferred to him.
5 Shikamaru Managed To Kill An Akatsuki Member Despite Not Being As Strong
Shikamaru and his Team 10 clashed against the Akatsuki quite early after the time-skip in Naruto and surprisingly, their team leader Asuma Sarutobi ended up dying.
To avenge his death and protect those dear to him, Shikamaru took it upon himself to stop Hidan, the Akatsuki member who killed Asuma. Despite not being as strong as him, Shikamaru used his mind brilliantly to outclass him in battle and overcome his immortality, saving his teammates and even Kakashi as well.
4 Minato Namikaze Saved Naruto From Completely Freeing Kurama During The Pain Arc
Minato Namikaze is one of the most important characters in the Naruto story and although dead, he plays a role indirectly at various points in the story. At one such time, when Pain attacked Konohagakure, Minato ended up saving the entire village by stopping Naruto from releasing the Eight Trigrams Seal completely.
Minato also warned him about the Masked Man and pushed him onward toward his dream, thus playing a big part in Pain's eventual defeat.
3 Konohamaru Sarutobi Took Down One Of The Pains
Konohamaru Sarutobi was merely a genin when Pain and Konan attacked Konohagakure, yet he stepped up and defeated one of the Pains, something that very few characters in the story can claim to have done.
Thanks to Naruto having taught him the Rasengan, Konohamaru got stronger and managed to destroy a Pain path. He saved quite a number of people from merciless slaughter in doing so.
2 Itachi Uchiha Broke Kabuto's Edo Tensei & Made Him Undo The Jutsu
Itachi Uchiha was reanimated by Kabuto Yakushi to fight on his behalf in the Fourth Great Ninja War, but Itachi broke through this Jutsu and ended up fighting him instead. Despite having to hold back, Itachi managed to defeat Kabuto Yakushi in a way where he made him undo the Edo Tensei Jutsu and, once again, became the unsung hero of the world.
1 Orochimaru Reanimated The Four Hokage & Helped The Allied Forces Win The War
Orochimaru was one of the major antagonists of the Naruto story for quite a long time, but during the Fourth Great Ninja War, he decided to observe Sasuke's journey instead. At Sasuke's request, he brought back the first four Hokage and eventually joined the war with them.
Although Orochimaru might not have had the best of intentions, he played a massive part in the victory of the shinobi alliance, surprising as it might have been.
