Naruto: 5 Times Itachi Was Wrong (& 5 Times He Did The Right Thing)

Itachi Uchiha is one of the most loved characters among the fans in the Naruto series. Although he starts his journey in the story as a villain and an enemy for Sasuke to take down, his true goals paint him in a different light entirely.

Itachi is later revealed to be a hero and someone who always protected his village from the shadows. Sasuke deems him to be a true Hokage, yet he made quite a number of mistakes in his life, some of which he even admits to making himself.

10 WRONG: He Kept Sasuke In The Dark & Made His Decisions For Him

Itachi Uchiha posed as a villain for most of his life and kept Sasuke from the truth even when they clashed for the final time. There is no denying that Itachi loved his brother and was very protective of him, but his trust in Sasuke was lacking from the looks of it.

After being reanimated, Itachi admits to this mistake of his and tells Sasuke that he should've told him the truth right from the beginning.

9 RIGHT: He Kept The Akatsuki In Check For As Long As He Was Alive

After massacring his whole clan, Itachi had to run from Konoha, and he chose to join the Akatsuki. Although he did much of their dirty work for them, Itachi also stopped them in their tracks several times. It wasn't until Itachi died that Obito felt free to use the Akatsuki to attack Konoha as he knew Itachi would've proven to be an obstacle in his path had he been alive.

8 WRONG: When He Forced Sasuke To Hate Him & Seek Revenge Against Him

Itachi was the man primarily responsible for the Uchiha clan massacre in the eyes of everyone, and the only person he spared was his little brother. Although he spared his life, Itachi messed his life up by trying to get him obsessed with revenge.

Itachi completely destroyed Sasuke's childhood and forced him to hate him in hopes that he could one day deliver justice.

7 RIGHT: He Always Tried To Avoid Conflict & Bloodshed

Itachi was a pacifist ever since he saw the horrors of the Third Great Ninja War, so it's no surprise that he avoided conflict every time he could. While the opinion on the massacre may vary, it is a fact that Itachi chose the path where the least number of lives would be sacrificed.

Even when he attacked Konoha, he never killed any shinobi from the village, and this is one of the reasons why defeating his opponents with genjutsu was his strength.

6 WRONG: When He Told Sasuke Uchiha To Kill His Best Friend In Exchange Of Great Power

Another big mistake that Itachi made was to tell Sasuke to kill his best friend to gain the same eyes as him, referring to the Mangekyo Sharingan. While this would certainly have made Sasuke strong and capable enough to protect himself, it was a horrible thing to say to a kid. Thankfully, Sasuke was smart enough to see right from wrong and chose to take a different path to attain power.

5 RIGHT: He Always Protected Sasuke In His Own Way

Sasuke was always one of Itachi's main priorities, along with the protection of his village. However, if forced to choose between the two, Itachi would definitely go with his brother. The love he bore for Sasuke was inexplicably strong. Although his ways were wrong at times, he made sure that Sasuke was safe at all times and even planned to protect him from Obito after his death.

4 WRONG: When He Used Tsukuyomi On Sasuke

One of the biggest wrongdoings of Itachi Uchiha is the usage of his Mangekyo Sharingan Genjutsu called Tsukuyomi on Sasuke. He did this for the first time when Sasuke found him after he had killed Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha. Using his jutsu, he forced Sasuke to relive the entire ordeal hundreds of times, if not more, traumatizing him in the process.

When the two met years after, Itachi used the same jutsu once again and showed him the cruel fate of his clan and the death of his parents countless times once again.

3 RIGHT: When He Stopped Kabuto Yakushi In The Fourth Great Ninja War

Itachi was reanimated by Kabuto during the Fourth Great Ninja War to fight for him, but he was ultimately able to break through his control and fought against him instead. In an intense fight, Itachi proved to be successful in stopping Kabuto Yakushi, thanks to the usage of the forbidden jutsu, Izanami. In doing so, he played a major role in the victory of the Shinobi Alliance.

2 WRONG: When He Tried To Do Everything By Himself Throughout His Life

Itachi always considered himself to be the one to shoulder every burden in his life, whether that be the safety of the village, the fate of his clan, or the protection of his brother. He had a hard time asking others for help and relying on them, which is why he eventually failed. Itachi admits this fault of his to Naruto Uzumaki and tells him that only the person who is acknowledged by everyone gets to become Hokage.

1 RIGHT: When He Eventually Told Sasuke The Truth About His Life & The Fate Of The Clan

Itachi admitted to having made a massive mistake by not being honest with Sasuke from the start. However, after he is reanimated, he didn't repeat this mistake and chose to share the entire truth about his life, his way of thinking, and the Uchiha Clan with Sasuke. In doing so, he corrected his mistake from before and did what little he could do then to make Sasuke's life better.
