Psych Alum to Headline ABC’s Wonder Years Reboot | CBR

Psych alum Dulé Hill has joined the cast of ABC's reboot of The Wonder Years.

The remake of the 1980s series will focus on a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the late '60s at the height of the civil rights movement. According to Deadline, Hill will play Bill Williams, the father of co-star Elisha Williams' Dean. A music professor who also moonlights as a funk musician, Bill wants to ensure that his family and Black, middle-class neighborhood maintain a sense of self-sufficiency.

Also joining the cast is Black Lightning's Laura Kariuki, who will portray Dean's teenage sister Kim. While she and Dean bicker as all siblings do, the two are described as having a good relationship. Her parents want her to focus on college applications, but she has entered a rebellious stage and is reconsidering the value of a college education.

The original Wonder Years aired for six seasons between 1988 and 1993 and starred Fred Savage as a white, middle-class child growing up in a 1960s suburb. The new series will be produced by Lee Daniels, Saladin Patterson and Savage, with Daniels serving as showrunner with Marc Velez and Patterson writing.

Produced by Lee Daniels, Saladin Patterson and Fred Savage, The Wonder Years stars Elisha "EJ" Williams, Saycon Sengbloh, Dulé Hill and Laura Kariuki. The series will air on ABC.
