G.I. Joe Origins: Snake-Eyes has begun filming reshoots, according to star Henry Golding.
"Oh we are back on set ladies and gentlemen!" Golding said in a video message on YouTube. He added that it was a "really challenging period" to film during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, Golding stressed that everyone on set was tested and that he was eager to "get this business churning."
G.I. Joe Origins: Snake-Eyes will chronicle the life of the titular ninja commando, including his time with the Arashikage clan and his rivalry with fellow ninja Storm Shadow. It also serves as a reboot of the G.I. Joe film franchise, with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse writing the script. Originally slated to premiere last month, Snake-Eyes will now premiere in October of this year due to Paramount shifting its schedule in the wake of COVID-19.
"Robert is a huge Japanese cinephile, everything from [Akira] Kurosawa to just the phenomenal Spaghetti Westerns of samurai movies," Golding previously said while discussing director Robert Schwenke's influences for Snake-Eyes. "A lot of attention to cultural detail was put into this movie. There are not a lot of movies that are allowed to film in Japan and we went to some amazing, amazing places. The authenticity is there."
Directed by Robert Schwentke, G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Andre Koji as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness and Samara Weaving as Scarlett. The film arrives in theaters on Oct. 2021.
