Sony Takes a Major Step Toward Closing PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita Stores

Reports recently surfaced that Sony finally would finally close the PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita stores permanently. Now, the news has been confirmed through PlayStation players.

Eurogamer reports that a website meant for gamers still buying PS3, PSP and PS Vita games was shut down unexpectedly over the weekend. The abrupt shutdown first came to light as players took to the gaming forum Resetera to voice their surprise over the closure.

The Resetera community talked about going to the PlayStation 3 webstore, only to find a white webpage that sent them to a store for PlayStation 4 and 5 games. They also added how they lost access to their dedicated download list and wishlist. Apparently, Sony still allows gamers to purchase PS3, PSP and Vita games through a slower digital store. Players are still able to play previously purchased games but will not be able to buy new digital games.

In October 2020, Sony relaunched its web and mobile stores without PS3, PSP and PS Vita games. The company even discontinued the wishlist feature for all three gaming devices. The PS3 and PSP stores are expected to close on July 2 while the PS Vita store will close on Aug. 27. Despite this recent action, Sony has not made an official announcement about the impending closures.
