WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 9, "The Series Finale," streaming now on Disney+.
WandaVision actor Kathryn Hahn recently admitted she played a big part in introducing sex-related jokes to Westview.
"I would keep turning to Lizzie and Paul during the making of this and be, like, 'I can't believe that this is my entrance into the Marvel world," Hahn recalled to Vanity Fair.
Hahn added that she felt "a sense of freedom" while on the show's set. "And I’ll never forget being pitched the show by Matt Shakman, the director, and Jac Schaeffer, the writer, because I was, like, "This is so incredible, what you guys are proposing," Hahn continued. "'I'm so flabbergasted that this can exist in the MCU.'"
"In terms of whatever rules I thought would be in place and whatever preconceived notions I had of Marvel, that just went out the window," Hahn revealed. "So of course, I was in an '80s outfit, making sex jokes -- that makes total sense in this world."
Hahn appeared in the majority of WandaVision as Wanda and Vision's nosy neighbor Agnes. It was revealed later in the series, however, that Agnes was actually a centuries-old witch named Agatha Harkness who was determined to steal Wanda's power.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently opened up about their decision to cast Hahn as Agnes, noting that everything happened unexpectedly. "It was a rare general meeting, which we don't usually have a lot of time to do, but Kathryn came in and sat down with Luis D'Esposito," Feige recalled. "At exactly that same time, we were sitting in that writer's room trying to think of who to play Agnes. It probably took five seconds for somebody to say, 'Wait, what about Kathryn? She was in yesterday.'"
The feud between Wanda and Agatha came to a climax in Episode 9, "The Series Finale," when Agatha forced Wanda to choose her powers or her perfect life with Vision and their twins inside her imaginary version of Westfield. After realizing her full potential as the Scarlet Witch, Wanda used her powers to destroy both Agatha and her own imaginary happiness.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. The series is available to stream on Disney+.
