WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Young Rock Episode 2, "On the Road Again."
NBC's Young Rock finds teenage Dwayne Johnson (Bradley Constant) going through the motions after his family moves to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in the '80s. However, despite having to work at a pizza parlor to help his parents pay the bills, he's never wavered in his main ambition: landing a date with the stuck-up Karen.
Now, in the latest episode, Dwayne finally gets a date with Karen, and while it's a perfect one, it quickly becomes violent and sets up the downfall of his high school life.
In "On the Road Again," Dwayne and his bestie, Gabe, panic when the girls arrive at their joint for pizza. However, Dwayne decides to go for it, taking his old man's advice about romance. He wastes little time and cracks a few cheesy muscle jokes, foreshadowing his Hollywood career. And while it seems like he's going to get shut down, it turns out Karen loves his corny attitude and agrees to swap phone numbers. Dwayne's confidence is through the roof, so he decides to take her to a wrestling showcase with his dad has the next day, not realizing his old man oversold it.
As it turns out, the event is inside a flea market, but when Karen asks him to leave, Rock sticks by his dad and says that he would never abandon his family. Dwayne doesn't care if she now knows he's poor because he has to stay true to himself. Surprisingly, Karen opts to stay and ends up loving the show. The thrill of bodies slamming on the mat, heels fighting faces and just about everything Rocky does in-ring wows the girl, giving her the time of her life.
However, the next day at school, while Dwayne basks in their moment, he gets crap from Kevin, a rich brat who's jealous he landed Karen. Admittedly, Karen's outed Dwayne, but she doesn't care about the class divide between them, only wanting to talk about how much fun she had. Sadly, the punk didn't need to hear what she had to say because his older brother was at the market.
As the bully proceeds to make fun of his dad, Dwayne, enraged at the insult, walks over and decks him. He knocks Kevin out cold, leaving all the students, especially Karen, petrified. He knows he's in big trouble, and without a leg to stand on, it's only a matter of time before the school administration, his parents and potentially the cops get involved.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Joseph Lee Anderson, Stacey Leilua, Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, Uli Latukefu, Ana Tuisila, Fasitua Amosa and John Tui, Young Rock airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
