10 Times Anime Heroes Inadvertently Helped The Villains | CBR

Anime heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Some are heroes because they possess ungodly powers, some train hard to become the strongest superheroes in their universe, while others have their massive intellect at their disposal.

Despite everything working in their favor, even anime heroes can be victims of their own mistakes – and big ones at that. They have often unwittingly helped villains in furthering their grand plans, and while sometimes their efforts are thwarted right in the nick of time, sometimes these heroes end up paying a heavy price for their actions.

10 Bishamon Never Once Questioned The Traitor Kugaha’s Actions Or Intentions (Noragami)

Kugaha was one of the many shinki Bishamon possessed, and her blind faith in him resulted in him not only throwing the trusty Kazuma out of her home, but also allowing Kugaha to blight her entire shinki clan so that Bishamon could die and be reborn as the “correct” Goddess of War

Until the very end, she never once doubted him and it was only when deniable proofs were stacked against him, that Bishamon realized what a heavy mistake she’d made in trusting someone this blindly.

9 Barnaby Helped Become His Father’s Murderer Become The Most Powerful Man In His City (Tiger & Bunny)

While Albert was already an influential person as the CEO of Apollon Media, Barnaby’s meteoric rise in fame was paralleled in Albert's company’s increase in its stock and market values, as well as his power to control the entire city behind the curtains.

Barnaby never once questioned this father figure of his, because Albert had manipulated his memories into believing that a criminal organization was responsible for his parents’ murder.

8 All Might’s Inability To Kill All For One Resulted In Many Innocent People & Heroes Dying (My Hero Academia)

It is good to be emotional, but one shouldn’t use one’s no-kill policy as an excuse to let murderers run amok, which is exactly what All Might did.

Imprisonment did not stop this super villain, seeing how he honed the evil Shigaraki Tomura, who eventually became in charge of the League of Villains, which was responsible for a yet undeclared number of casualties, not to mention the destruction of public property.

7 Saitama’s Carefree Attitude Was Unbecoming Of A Hero Who Saved Lives (One-Punch Man)

He himself admitted he was a hero just for fun since he had nothing better to do. However, doing a job half-heartedly is as good as not doing the job, seeing how casual Saitama was (initially) towards all the death and destruction villains caused in his city.

He would usually be wasting time on frivolous pursuits (like supermarket sales) rather than focusing on being an upstanding hero who did his best to stop villains from harming his fellow sisters and brothers.

6 Lin’s Faith In Feilang Boomeranged, With Feilang Growing Up To Be A Ruthless Assassin (Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens)

In a fight to the death, Lin and Feilang agreed to not fight each other, and rather decided to attack the guards and escape from their imprisonment camp. However, while Lin kept his word, Feilang betrayed his trust and backstabbed him (quite literally).

While Lin somehow managed to escape, his naïve and trusting nature resulted in Feilang not dying, due to which he grew up to be a ruthless and bloodthirsty killer for hire.

5 Senku Frees The Psychopathic & Murderous Tsukasa (Dr. Stone)

Despite being extremely intelligent, Senku was an idealist who believes everybody deserves a chance to live, which is his philosophy when he starts de-petrifying humans. However, the now-free Tsukasa implores Senku to change his mind, and expectedly, Senku disagrees.

This creates a difference of ideologies between the two, where Tsukasa first goes about breaking stone statues of certain people who’d harmed him, and then made up his mind to kill Senku and his friends in order to stop them from achieving their targets.

4 Haruo Let Himself Be Manipulated By The Religious Zealot Metphies (Godzilla Series)

Haruo always thought of Metphies as a friend, but the alien priest was nothing but an amoral and shrewd creature who was only true to his one god – Ghidorah.

All of his plans, right from manipulating Haruo into starting a rebellion, to forcing their spaceship to land on earth to fight Godzilla, were nothing but steps in his master plan of witnessing a Godzilla v/s Ghidorah fight.

3 Kabane Still Doesn’t Suspect Kon Of Being A Double Agent For Inari (Kemono Jihen)

Inari wants the powerful stone that Kabane possesses, but the only way she can have it is if he gives it away willingly. So, she uses Kon’s loyalty and need for validation to her advantage, ordering her to get close to Kabane so that he hands over his stone to her.

Kabane is completely unaware of Inari’s master plan, nor does he suspect Kon’s intentions, so he continues to keep her by his side, giving her free access to him and his confused emotional state of mind.

2 Acca & Ura-Acca Kept On Ignoring Frill’s Psychopathic Tendencies (Wonder Egg Priority)

The scientist duo created Frill and made her the center of their worlds, but eventually ignored her in favor of Acca’s wife and daughter. Ura-acca himself admitted he saw the signs in Frill early on, but chose to ignore them because he didn’t take them seriously.

As a result, Frill ended up murdering the only two females that ever managed to make their place in Acca’s heart (apart from her) so that she could once again be his number one priority.

1 Naruto’s Growth Pushed Sasuke Away Towards Orochimaru (Naruto)

Orochimaru had been trying to entice Sasuke for quite a while, but the latter had resisted giving in to his mind games. However, when he saw how strong Naruto had gotten during battles, and how his comrade had developed his powers, he realized how weak he actually was and how much he had to learn.

The final straw was when he saw the damage his Chidori had done to a water tank, versus the damage done by Naruto’s Rasengan. Filled with hatred for his brother and a desire to avenge his clan, Sasuke decided he would be better off learning how to become powerful with Orochimaru than staying in the village. He deserted the village and ran to Orochimaru soon after.
