Assassin's Creed: Mayan Culture Would Make For a Great Sequel

Since the first game's release in 2007, the Assassin's Creed franchise has explored some of the most influential eras in world history, including the Italian Renaissance and the Golden Age of Piracy. The franchise also teased other cultures that followed the Assassin Order in their main titles. One of these cultures is the Mayan civilization in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Assassin mentor Ah Tabai aided Edward Kenway in learning about and eventually joining the Order, but Tabai and the Mayan culture could be better served by being explored in their own title.

Like other early South American civilizations, the Mayans were highly advanced in their architecture, created temples, and established their own politics. An Assassin's Creed game set in this era would cover a time when their civilization would be nearing its end with the appearance of Spanish Conquistadors. The story could even be told through the eyes of a young female assassin, raised in a small tribe that followed the Assassin Order.

The main character's story would be about overcoming obstacles and social norms of the culture, as the main character tried to become an elite warrior rather than deal in politics or be a mother. Eventually, she would become one of the best hunters and warriors before being inducted into the brotherhood. This would set the player out on an adventure to explore the mountains and jungles of South America.

During exploration, players would have to survive the dangers of the rainforest as everything from big cats to wild boar attacks. The trees would be the best way to navigate, like in Black Flag, and bring parkour back as a focus like in the older titles. Players would also be able to explore ruins from the Mayan and Aztec civilizations created at the start of the cultures. These ruins would also lead into the game's overarching story of the Isu and have some of their more alien temples hidden within the ruins.

The game would have the assassin come into contact with Aztecs and Mayans from larger cities and give players the chance to witness human sacrifices. As the game carried on, the Spanish invader's true intentions would be revealed. The main character would have to stop a Templar threat from destroying her civilization as they try to find an ancient artifact.

As history would show, the Spanish influence in South America would slowly erode at the Mayan culture until almost nothing was left. The climax of this game could allude to this, evoking a bittersweet feeling as history marches on. The story would be a celebration of the Mayan culture and show the wonder and brutality of the era through the eyes of a likable assassin who wants nothing more than to protect her culture.
