In the DC Universe, there is no lack of powerful heroes. However, they often pair up with other powerful heroes romantically. This makes DC Comics home to some of the strongest couples in any comic book universe.
It should be noted that there are so many Kryptonian heroes in DC history. Kryptonians and their Daxamite cousins are so phenomenally strong that even when paired with partners who don't possess super-strength, they still rank among the strongest couples. They are not the only beings with power, though, as DC History will certainly attest.
10 Big Barda & Mister Miracle: Barda Rivals Most Earth-Based Heroes While Mister Miracle Has Super-Human Strength
Growing up under Granny Goodness's tutelage on Apokolips, Big Barda and Mister Miracle fell in love and started one of the longest-lasting marriages in the DC Universe. Even among the notables of Apokolips, Barda has strength that could rival most of the Earth-based heroes of the DC Universe.
Mister Miracle is not known for super-strength, but hailing from the New Gods of New Genesis, Scott Free has a level of super-human strength. It isn't often demonstrated as his dominant trait is his ability to escape anything.
9 Aquaman & Mera: They Can Withstand High Pressure Deep Into The Ocean Depths
Another of DC Comics' long-term marriages is Aquaman and Mera. They have become equals over the decades, with Mera gaining more and more prominence. Her prominence is so high that her role in the DCEU is significant, especially in the film Aquaman.
Much of their strength comes from their ability to withstand the high pressure deep into the ocean depths. Aquaman gains a significantly larger level of strength due to his hybrid nature. Mera's combat style makes use of her strength, delivering devastating results.
8 Mon-El & Shadow Lass: Mon-El Surpasses Superboy & Supergirl, While Shadow Lass Is Stealthy & Skilled In Martial Arts
A couple in the Legion of Super-Heroes that has one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy is Mon-El and Shadow Lass. Mon-El surpasses Superboy and Supergirl with the anti-lead serum that removes his vulnerability to lead and red solar radiation. He's also older than either of them, but probably not Superman.
Shadow Lass may often seem like a passenger along for the ride with Mon-El on his adventures, but when stealth is called for, she's the more capable of the pair. She also has far more skill in martial arts than her significant other. On the right adventure, there's no more capable pair.
7 Supergirl & Brainiac 5: Supergirl Has Immeasurable Strength & Brainiac 5 Relies On His Incredible Force Fields & Intellect
If there is one true love for Supergirl, it's her teammate in the Legion of Super-Heroes, Brainiac 5. Like with many Kryptonians, Supergirl has such almost immeasurable strength that any couple she's a part of has the power to top even the more formidable couples. Brainiac 5 is different from her other boyfriends in that his genius gives him occasional power to be a significant contribution to this power couple.
Brainiac 5's force fields are nigh-unbreakable. He's used them to hold up debris and collapses that would surely kill any other hero. Once, a science-minded foe stripped him of his force field belt to prevent him from stopping a collapsing energy field, only stopped by the unbreakable metal Inertron. While his natural strength may not come close to superhuman, his intellect and inventions have compensated.
6 Apollo & The Midnighter: Apollo Is Solar-Powered & The Midnighter Combines Enhancements With A Tactical Mind
In the Authority, Apollo and Midnighter stood out not only because of their similarities to Batman and Superman but by being prominently gay. Heavily insinuated since their debut, the duo became an example of LGBTQ representation. This was especially significant since after Wildstorm's purchase by DC Comics, their adventures were coming from a major publisher.
Apollo is solar-powered in a way that inspires awe. Midnighter has enhancements that, while not necessarily superhuman, make him stronger and capable of defeating opponents much more powerful than he. His tactical mind makes him far more dangerous than any Gotham-based hero one would confuse him with.
5 Superman & Lori Lemaris: Superman Is One Of The Most Powerful Beings & Lori Is A Mermaid With Superhuman Strength
While still in college, Clark Kent dated a young girl named Lori Lemaris. Clark was even ready to marry the young woman he believed to be wheelchair-bound, but she refused, needing to return to her home country. What Clark didn't realize was that Lori was a mermaid until she revealed it to him before saying goodbye. Over the years, they would occasionally rekindle their relationship until Lori fell in love with an alien merman named Ronal.
As an Atlantean, Lori has a measure of superhuman strength, but only when compared to surface humans. All of this strength is an adaptation to survive in ocean depths. She should not be considered to be on the level of Aquaman.
4 Superman & Lois Lane: Lois Occasionally Gains Powers To Increase The Couple's Combined Strength
When there's a Kryptonian in the mix, even halving it to compensate for a non-powered partner makes for quite a powerful couple. If courage or intelligence were being taken into account, then Superman and his wife Lois Lane might be ranked higher. There is something to take into account, though, and it's all of the times that Lois has obtained powers.
Whether Superman created a serum for Lois to duplicate his powers for 24 Hours or a magic pool that gave her temporary powers, Lois has had moments where she was in a romantic relationship with Superman and possessing significant super-strength. That raises her status among non-powered partners a little.
3 Superboy Conner Kent & Wonder Girl: Conner Is Superman's Clone & Wonder Girl's Olympian Heritage Gives Her Super-Strength
In Teen Titans, the relationship between Conner Kent and Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark ran as a consistent anchor for the team. The relationship was so strong that it endured through Conner's death and resurrection. It also marked one of the most powerful couples in the DC Universe.
Conner inherits the Kryptonian strength from being cloned from Superman. Wonder Girl's super-strength comes as a result of her Olympian heritage. While she once had her abilities increased by Ares, this was during a time when Conner was believed to be dead.
2 Black Adam & Isis: Isis' Amulet Gave Her Power On Par With Black Adam
While ruling Kandhaq, Black Adam freed a young Egyptian woman from Intergang. They fell in love and before marriage, he and Captain Marvel bestowed the Amulet of Isis to her. This gave her power on par with Black Adam, making her one of the strongest women in the DC Universe.
It was not a union that would last, and with her dying words, Isis spurred Black Adam into starting World War III. Her corrupted resurrection sparked so much turmoil that Black Adam worked with the wizard Shazam to strip her power from her. Since she finalized her role as the non-powered human ruler of Khandaq, she has not had a relationship with Black Adam.
1 Superman & Wonder Woman
In the New 52, the power couple was Superman and Wonder Woman of the Justice League. The two bonded primarily over their roles as superheroes. Fans didn't seem to be completely on board with the relationship, so it was ultimately doomed to fail.
As a couple, the duo proved especially adept at defeating dangerous threats. This was demonstrated in their own series, Superman/Wonder Woman as well as Justice League. The relationship canonically fell apart when Lois Lane revealed Superman's secret identity to the world and post-Rebirth retcons eliminated the relationship from ever happening.
